Just to add to that - If the OP had within 90 days period started other school he/she would have been considered actively pursuing their studies.
Also before withdrawing from one course OP should have had LOA from other institution to prove that they are enrolled.

Main thing is 90 days window from exit to entry in another program, I guess. I know of a few cases who landed in Toronto and very next day they
changed their institution and at other institute the gap was less than 90 days so they had no issues as to applying for a new study permit also.

Sometimes people assume that changing an institution is a cake walk by doing it online through DLI transfer only but one needs to follow
certain regulations of study permit as well.

If I go out of status, how will CIC communicate with me? Any idea about that?

CIC will not proactively tell you that you have fallen out of status. It's your responsibility to remain in status.
