Changing Flight Dates or Cancel?

Greetings all!

My fiancée and I are going to get married soon and will be applying for family class sponsorship after that.

I am wondering about my return flight tickets though. Should I extend them or cancel them?
I got my visa stamped till early 2014, but my return flight that I initially booked is approaching and I was wondering if I should change them to a date in 2014 or cancel them and then if need be, buy a one way back ticket?

Any information would be helpful!

Are they refundable? We had to extend a return ticket once or twice, the first time we were able to change the return date for FREE. So if you can reschedule it for "free", why not?

Called around and got it extended. There was a fee to it but not too bad.
