Hi,

In behalf of my friend, i'd like to ask if posting a job online like job bank is required in getting LMIA even if the nanny applicant is currently in Canada? I appreciate all replies. Thanks!

Yes - it's required to get an LMIA approved.

Thanks! Do you have idea how many weeks required for applicant within Canada? Is it the same with those who are from abroad?

Hi Purplebutterfly,

This was my timeline for the approved LMIA under the Live in Caregiver program:

November 20, 2014 - faxed LMIA application
November 24, 2014 - 1,000 charged on credit card
November 30, 2014 - received a call from them, answered some questions, and the guy told me that my LMIA application has been approved
December 5, 2014 - received positive LMIA in the mail (LMIA expires May 30, 2015)

I'm in BC and my potential nanny is currently in Edmonton, AB on a study permit. He is originally from Japan.

Wow thank you! That is fast!

Another question since you're nanny is already in Canada, did you advertise job in job bank before applying for LMiA?

Hi Purplebutterfly,

Yes I advertised in job bank. Though my potential nanny was in Canada it was required that I advertise in job bank for a minimum of 14 days (I advertised for 3 weeks just to be on the safe side). I applied under the old rules of the Live in Caregiver Program since I submitted my LMIA application before November 30, 2014. I believe now, it's called the Caregiver Program and you will need to advertise in job bank for a minimum of 4 weeks.

Normally LMIA applications takes a lot longer than the 10 days for mine. I was hoping that it was going to take over a month as my potential nanny won't be able to apply for his LCP work permit until mid May as he is waiting for his Live in Caregiver Certificate. It'll give him only 2 weeks to apply for his work permit which is fine I suppose. I asked the guy I spoke to as to why it was processed so fast and he told me it's processed on a case by case basis. I did above and beyond what was required for my LMIA application so I figured that helped in getting it processed faster. I wanted to apply before the November 30, 2014 deadline so that we can fall under the old rules.

Hope this helps :)

Thank you for your reply! That really helps! Is your caregiver a male? Best of luck!

Hi Purplebutterfly,

Thank you. Yes, our future nanny is a male. Only hurdle to cross is the approval of the work permit under the LCP.

Good luck to your friend :)
