We need to apply asap for my extension to remain in Canada as a visitor.
What paperwork is required to provide enough information about funds available?

We are completing the Statutory Declaration of Common-Law Union to support our application.
Since I live with my common-law, does he need to provide income information to support the application?

Our cash flow is very tight, and I wonder if it would be good or not, to bring in a friend or family to back us up with numbers for the application.

For a visa extension, there is a place for indicating that Financial Support from someone else. While generally it is your spouse/partner, it does not appear that it *must* be. You have a place to indicate the relationship with the person providing financial support (could be parent or other family, for example).

The people who are providing you with financial support should write a letter (each) stating that they are willing and able to provide financial support, and also include in your application PROOF of this financial support. It can be a bank statement or pay stub or letter of employment that states salary, for example.

I think this page gives further details: Temporary residents: Proof of Funds / Financial Support

I just extended my visa recently online and my husband submitted that form. In one file, he wrote a letter stating that he will support me and attached copies of his savings and pay stub. Hope this helps :)

Thank you both. Very helpful.
My partner is self-employed. If anyone else has input on this basis...?
