Changing a closed permit to an open permit...need help

Hi All,

I am a foreign worker here on a Provincial Nomination work permit so that would tie me to the company I am with until I get residency status which will be at least another year. The issue with this is the company know that and they treat us with such abuse and have filled us with lies to the point I cannot take it anymore. I love being in Canada and I do not want to leave but I see no alternative working for these people. I am wondering if anyone could advise me on if it would be possible to change my visa to an open visa or if there is no choice but to stick with this company. Any information anyone could give me would be highly appreciated.

Hi, as far as I've read, it's not that simple to switch from a closed to an open work permit.

As a Provincial Nominee, if your current closed work permit is about to expire in 4 months, you can apply for a Bridging Open Work permit. This will allow you to change employers as you wait for your PR.
Another option is for you to find a new employer willing to go through the process of LMIA (formerly labour market opinion) and get another closed work permit.
