Hi,

I entered Canada temporarily on WX-1 worker visa (expires Dec 20'10) from Taiwain on Aug 5'10.
According to CIC I am just a visitor and can stay till Feb 5, 11. I got a job offer (positive LMO etc) and I would like to know how I can obtain a work permit, instead of having to go back to Philippines and submitting my applications (which will take up to 18 months).
I heard I can go to Buffalo for an interview, but will need a visa to enter US. What is the best process and ways to stay in Canada and process all the paper work?

Thanks,
P

You can apply your paper in Buffalo.. or inquire if you can apply inside Canada.. I am a caregiver too and finished my 24months already but I got married and i am processing my paper through Inland Spousal Sponsorship.. best of luck to both of us..

You can send your WP/Visa application either to Buffalo or Seattle.

Hi

My extension as a wx-1 worker got refused as I am considered a visitor. I will submit another application to extend my stay. I now would like to know what is the best and fastest way for me to get a work permit in order to start work as a live-in caregiver?
I have the LMO and job offer letter, I also did my medical examination. I do not want to return back to Philippines as I am already here and ready to work.

Sorry 1 more questions - how do I enter US - where do I get the visa?
Also as a visitor is there any amount of money you should have in order to get approved for stay in Canada?

You need not go to the US to apply for your initial Work Permit. You can mail the application.

Although there is a very good chance that you will have to attend an interview. If you are visitor in Canada and don't have a US visa, it is unlikely that you would obtain one for travel to the interview.

PMM - Why do you think they will unlikely approve?

My other question is - I did my medical in Canada, if I apply in Buffalo (mail application) can they access this medical - this is my DMP told me.

1. The US will not in most instance issued visitor's visas to visitors in Canada.
2. Inteviews are usually held if the applicant comes from a non-English/French mother tongue.
3. Yes, Buffalo can access the medical.

PMM- I am from the Philippines so I would be considered non-English, right?

Also, I keep getting some info that I can go the CIC office on St. Clair and they will review my application and tell me to go to Buffalo for interview.
Currently I am too afraid to submit my application anywhere but my time is running out and I need to do something or I will not be able to work.
When I call CIC they say to submit to Buffalo but they might reject or actually contact Philippines to get more info on me in order to grant the work permit.
Has anyone done this before (recently) that can speak from experience?

Hi PatriciaTO

How are you? Any progress on your status? I'm following this thread because my sister in law will also apply TRV at when she gets here, will apply LMO for her to be our caregiver. I wonder if yours and her case is the same, but I'm hoping there's a successful turn-out so we can follow to.

PMM, would you suggest that my sister in law also apply for a US visa in the Philippines to be able to have her papers processed in Buffalo later on?

Thanks.

Thanks for the update PatriciaTO. So do you think our plan will work?

My other problem is how to write the letter of invitation that will show she has ties in the Philippines. She is still single and unemployed now, resigned from work to finish the caregiver course but she still lives with my in-laws who are in their 70s. Will also plan to come here when my sister in law is already settled here in canada.

Do you think there's a big chance of issuance of TRV if she also has an approved tourist US visa?
