Hi,
I came to Canada to work for a tech company this year, I went through all the process to have an approved LMIA and get the work permit. This month the company had to make a lot changes on their projects to get different clients and I was laid off!
So, my work permit is valid for one more year and I was told that I need to change the conditions of my work permit to be able to work for another company, but I'm not sure if a new employer would need to apply to get a new LMIA for me. Anyone here had to change the work permit conditions and know how this process works?

Thanks!

Yes - the new employer needs to get an LMIA.

You can't change the conditions of your existing work permit to allow you to work for a different employer. In order to work for a different employer, your new employer needs to obtain an new approved LMIA. You then need to apply for a new closed work permit. Once that work permit is approved, you can start working for your new employer.

Thanks for your answer!

I was making some research and found this, but as you said the new employer will need to apply and get a new LMIA: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=1201&top=17
