Hi there!

I am so glad I found this forum as I have been having a bit of a melt down since we sent our application away! Nice to meet you all! Glad we can share our stories/question with each other. :)

So I am a Canadian citizen and my husband is a citizen of Hong Kong. They received our application in December 2013 and I am still waiting to hear any news.

However, I have recently been under the suspicion that I am pregnant. I do not know for sure yet, but I am pretty positive that I am. I am just wondering, since I couldn't find any information online about it, what do I do!?

What steps should we take to notify the CIC of this change as I feel it is very important and pertinent to our application. We reside in Canada so I'm worried that if he gets rejected I'll be stuck raising a baby on my own for a while. :(

That being said, if the application is already being looked at (Processed) is it too late to notify them of any of these types of changes? If I am pregnant we will be in the market to purchase a house. (Which I also feel is something they should know!)

Thanks for any response! :)

Hi CherPare,

If my understanding is correct you would just update CIC once they start processing your case and you are allocated a case number, we are in the same boat waiting but I've read a lot from people who update CIC on changes of circumstances during processing. On a personal basis it's probably a good idea to get the pregnancy confirmed! In terms of your husbands application each case is specific so I don't think anyone could comment unless you had specific queries or red flags. Anyway congrats if you are pregnant and hopefully things with the application will run smoothly.

Ohhh, that's good news! I'm thinking we will know long before that. ;D Thank you very very much! Good point. I haven't heard anything yet, so not sure what to expect.

I am just wondering if they give you the option to update them at some point. I believe a house and a baby is a huge point towards the legitimacy of your relationship on top of being important and would hope you'd get a chance to inform them of these huge steps!

Thank you! And same for you too, good luck!!

Unfortunately inland takes a lot longer than most Outland applications but the fact you are married and possibly have a little rugrat on the way will hopefully stand you in good stead. I think CIC understands to some degree that life goes on outside of applications and relationships don't freeze once an application is submitted!

If it's your first then enjoy the experience we have an 8 month old and it's life changing for sure but in a good way. :D

You can inform CIC of your pregnancy however

Being pregnant will not speed up your application.

Also....I believe the only way to switch to inland is if you cancel your Outland application and start over

Congrats to your pregnancy CherPare! :)

We're in the same boat as well, I'm French living in Canada with my Canadian Wife who is almost now 7 months-pregnant... We updated our file by mid-May with a letter from the Doctor and pictures......

We wanted to buy a house as well but our problem is that I have been jobless since November so now all the savings that we had are gone, she'll have to stop working pretty soon but I'm still waiting for my work-permit and the MP that we went to meet was told to 'call back in October' as our baby is due in September.........

What is the status of your hubby?... :)

it is my understanding, it is not necessary to notify CIC of a pregnancy, only when the child is born. If the child is a canadian citizen, then no change to the application needs to be made. If the child is NOT canadian, and requires sponsorship, then it will need to be added to the application. Again, CIC won't need this info until after the child is born.

Very true, brucem! We figured it wouldn't look right if he suddenly went back to Hong Kong after being here for 6 years. :p Even if it was just to speed everything up!

I'm hoping this is a good point towards us. I would be so lost if he was rejected. :( Very good point! I've read that you can bring some things to the interview as well if you were given one. I'm just concerned because we are still establishing a life outside of university so we didn't own anything together yet when we sent it. I have a feeling that'll change here very quickly. :pP

Oh, for sure, sammystorm! I'm not worried about them speeding it up.

We are currently applying through inland. He's been here for years and at the time didn't think it was necessary to do it the other way. :p

Thanks muchly! I'm not confirmed yet. But my body is telling me something is up!

Oh that's awesome! Congratulations to you both! :) I see, like pictures of her bump and ultrasound, maybe?? :)

Oh no, that sucks! :( And I've heard it's kinda hard to get a mortgage with a non-Canadian? I don't know yet as we haven't met with a bank yet to discuss but I think we'll need to let go of all our savings for that! Sorry you guys are having a tough time! It'll work out in the end. :)

By status do you mean how he is staying here? Sorry, still new to the lingo! If yes, he obtained his degree here so he got an open work permit for 3 years. :)

Good luck to you both!

rhcohen, really!?? Oh man, I never would've guessed that. But I'm thinking in terms of proving our legitimacy we should probably send in photos and whatnot, yes? I am the Canadian by birth so my child will be as well as we are currently living in Canada, so I'm not too sure what to do about that!

if the child is canadian, they do not need to be sponsored, as they are already canadian. You would just need to apply for the citizenship certificate. yes, the information is helpful in showing the relationship is real and ongoing. There is no point notifiying CIC prior to the baby being born. No one can be sure of complications or problems faced in pregnancy and birth. While it may sound crude, it's the reality of the situation.

I am not sure if the applicant needs to submit a new additional family information form after the baby is born. my instinct says no, because the baby is already canadian and that form is used to determine future sponsorship eligibilty for non-canadian family members of the applicant.

Oh okay, I see what you mean! It's true, you are very right. I never thought of it that way.

Hmmm, I'm going to go with you on that one and say no as well. Since we haven't left Canada, I have no intentions of leaving Canada while pregnant either.

Thanks for the information!

In general you don't need to update the visa office with news of pregnancy or buying a home. Neither of these will affect the PR application.

Unless you had several red flags in your application or are really concerned about the relationship proof you submitted? In that case then it could be beneficial to provide CIC an "update" with ongoing relationship proofs.

However in general if yours was a normal straightforward application and there were no real concerns, you shouldn't send in anything unless CIC specifically asks for additional proof about something.

once the baby is born, definitely seek out more advice as to whether the applicant needs to submit a new additional family form. It *may* actually be needed, as i'm learning from other threads. Hopefully a senior member can confirm for you either way!
