Change school after one year of study

Hello, I studied for one year at a Canadian university and have been accepted into a different program at another university. After I inform IRCC of my new DLI, do I need to wait for their response before dropping my current school?

You now need a new study permit to change schools.

Rules changed last month and you cannot just change DLI with IRCC. You need a new study permit. So now you cannot study at the new school until approved so don’t stop studying at current school.

Hi, thank you for your reply. My first semester in the new school will start in May 1st. Can I finish this semester at my current university, then drop the school and wait for my new study permit ?

You can but you will have to maintain status as a visitor and not work. You will need to show $21k plus tuition. If refused, then you will leave Canada.

May you explain what "show $21k+ tuition" means ?
Is it fine if I apply inside canada then leave the country while waiting for the permit ?

You need to show funds to pay for your studies and that is $21k minimum plus tuition...on the IRCC site. You can leave but need valid TRV/ETA to return.

Usually one year. Again it is on the study permit site.
