Change of qualifications to meet the 38 list requirements.

Could you please advise me on the following matter.
If I my current occupation is not in the list of the 38 occupations, so I'd plan to get extra education that suits the requirements of the new regulations. Could you please tell me whether the 2 years vocation college will be enough to apply as a Skilled Worker in addition to that I've already got a Master's degree in another educational field that is not in the list of the 38?

How you know that your occupation is not in the list of 38? it is still not announced, so you need to wait until will be unnouced.

No one knows for sure what's going to happen (unless you have very good connections in the government, I guess...).

the thing is, it could be a list of 38, it could be dropped to 30, it could be raised to 60, or anything. It could be that the Skilled Worker program will be reserved only for those occupations. It could be simply that those will be fasttracked. It could be a lot of things. Maybe the new rules will be laxer, maybe they will be more strict. No one knows.

There are only two things you can do: send in your application according to the current rules as indicated in the CIC website, and ignore all the noise; or wait until the new rules come out and try not to think of it for now.

That's what I have done & still keep waiting. But I just wish to be prepared for the worst & need to know what type of change in my qualifications I need to do so as to meet the requirements.

I guess for now you cannot do anything to improve/change your qualifications. :-/

in any case, it's not like it's something you can really "prepare for". So you are a medical doctor and they say they want engineers. Will you go back to school, take another degree, and then work for a few years to get experience? Even if that's the case, the process would still take you years, so whether you start today or in january/2009, in the long term it's not going to make a big difference.

either apply now, or wait and see. unfortunately, there's nothing we can do about it.

Don't forget the priority occupations list may get revised from time to time. For example, engineers may be in the list this year, but not next year.

It seems like the priority occupations list only tight to work experience. You will have all your education counted.

So if I get at leat 2 years of work occupation they require, I don't need a specially related to that education? Please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks.

Remember, you can be a medical doctor, but spent your whole life managing a restaurant (perhaps because you are a bad doctor?), it's your work experience as a restaurant manager that will get you in, not your degree. there's no direct relation between education and occupation, except in the case of regulated professions.

whatever the new rules are, one thing is certain (at least to me): the emphasis is on work experience, not on education.
