Change of jobs during sponsorship process. Should I notify immigration, and how?

LOL... well I am Mexican as well (been in Canada for 10 years) so we could both make tamales and other yummy stuff :)

We applied as inland (inside of Canada) and submitted everything to the CIC offices in Vegreville, AB. I had no idea we could have done it as outland even when he was here with me, but I guess it is too late to think about that now.

Are the applications that have updated their timelines inland applications?

Oh gosh, I really hope we get a good compassionate officer that approves his visa extension... I am wondering now if we were a little "too honest" in our application for the extension. We sent a copy of the lease agreement of my apartment, where we show that he is living with me, together with all the proof of financial support and of course, the official receipt for the fees we paid for the sponsorship application, though it was only the receipt as we hadn´t received a file number yet.

Ahh... this is a bit stressing but having this support from people like you really makes a difference.

Thanks!!
Paola

My application was sent straight to CPC in Vegreville, AB... didn´t go through Mississauga or Mexico or anything... does that make sense? :)

Well, I'm always completely honest. I even applied for one extension and told the VO we just didn't want to get married yet. But I'm also visa exempt.

You're both welcome to my house then. Hehehehe...... I've been here 18 months and I finally determined if I want cilantro, I'm going to have to grow my own! (Soy gringa... :p)

Okay, since you're Inland, you won't fall under the timelines for Outland applicants. However, your husband is eligible to get an open worker permit once you've been approved to sponsor him. Now that you have the AOR, get the OWP application ready, pay the fees, and ship it to Vegreville (or wherever it says to send them, but I think it's Vegreville) along with your UCI, his Client ID#, and your file number. You could include a copy of your PR fee receipt too, just to give them extra backup to match the applications. Then email Vegreville with the information and let them know you've sent it.

Then you can cancel the visitor visa extension if you want. The application for the open work permit will give him Implied Status until Stage 1 is decided. This means he is legally allowed to stay until you're either approved or denied as a sponsor. If you're approved, about a month after the approval, he will get an open work permit in the mail. It will allow him to work any job that he can get hired for!

Once his visitor visa expires, he may want to carry around the receipt for the OWP folded up in his passport so he can show implied status along with a copy of your AOR email.

The bad news is, since you're Inland, you aren't eligible to join my spreadsheet. The good news is, if you apply for the OWP, your husband can stay and in about 6- 7 months, he will be allowed to work! :)

If you included the OWP application with your PR application, he doesn't need to do a thing. I would still recommend printing the receipt for OWP fees paid and the AOR email to carry in his passport just to be on the safe side.

I should mention there is a chance CIC won't figure out to put the two applications together. Or someone brilliant will try to process his OWP application before you get Stage 1 approval and they will deny it. I would mark the envelope "Additional documents - Spousal Open Work Permit" so they have a hint.

If you're more comfortable, you can let the visitor visa application play out. If he gets a visitor visa, once he get the OWP, it will still be valid.

Oh, Amikety, after all of your super helpful tips and support, I will be glad to cook anything mexican for you :) though I live in Toronto, and I don´t know why I have a feeling that you are in Ottawa? lol. I hear you! I actually tried to grow my own cilantro a couple of years ago, but it was a fail, haha.

That is too bad about your spreadsheet, but I hope we can continue to communicate through here :)

I will most definitely be applying for the OWP asap. I had no idea you could do that!! that is even better than the visitor permit... my husband is so so used to being busy with work (he is a Physician), this would be just wonderful. Then at least we would be able to keep busy until we hear the "yay" or "nay" from immigration!

Thank you, thank you thank you for all of the info!

Hello,

I just submitted the application to sponsor my husband at the beginning of January (2013). A couple of weeks after I had submitted it, I got a job offer that I couldn´t decline. I gave my two weeks notice at the job which I had submitted all of the info for the sponsorship and now I wonder if I need to notify immigration about it. I mean, all the info that is on the Financial Evaluation is from my previous job, so if they call to confirm all of the information I have there, and on the letter from my employer at that time, will no longer be accurate.

Do you know what I should do? Would this make them reject my application right off the back and I will have to start all over again?
At this point, I don´t even think they have opened my application yet (though I want to be optimist and think they will do it soon). Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,
Paola

Hi everyone!
I know this is 2013 forum, but i have the same situation. May i know whats the update on this case? Do we need to inform cix of the changes of employment of my sponsor or no need? Just sent our application last march 7. And he will have a new job on april. Thanks for the reply.
