Myself & my family have already landed in Canada as PR in April 2010. However we had to go to our african home country for various reasons but will definitely come back to reside in Canada within the next 2 years. Our surname has an anomaly in our birth certificates & we are seriously cosnidering to apply for a change of name in our home country. It takes about 1 year to change our surname. Say our surname is changed in June 2011, we will get new passports, etc. Our old passport will then be cancelled.

Question: how will enter into Canada in June 2011 with our new passport, but our canadian PR, SIN number, landing certificate are in our old surname? Which canadian authorities should we inform beforehand? Is it the the Canadian consulate in Kenya, Nairobi? Pls advise.

Before planning to make any changes in your name, contradictory to your landing records - PR Card, SIN etc, I suggest it is better you visit the nearest Service Canada Office and discuss this matter with an officer. You should get a proper advice from there.
