Change in marital status

Hello all,

Just curios, do I have to inform CIC if there was a change in my marital status?

When the new forms came out back in October last year, I noticed that they have omitted the question of your marital status vs. the old one in which it asked.

I finally got a copy of my ATIP today first one I ordered after getting AOR, and it assumes that I'm married even though the application never asked what your marital status was. Fact of the matter is I was separated when I applied in October and went to court last month to file for divorce after one year of separation. This marriage was also a sponsorship marriage which allowed me to land as a PR.

I suspect this may raise few eye browses with CIC as they process my citizenship application since I became PR by sponsorship, but was wondering if change in marital status is something I must report to CIC while my application is in processing, like address changes.

And if so since the court told me to wait 3-4 months for a divorce certificate by mail, should I say I'm separated until the divorce has been finalized (receive divorce certificate) or say I'm divorced?

Thanks.

Your marital status has no effect on your citizenship application. So, no, you don't need to advise CIC about the marital breakdown.
