I am a citizen living abroad submitted a PR application in April 2016 under common law. In Sep 2016, we were married and in Oct informed the VO change of marital status and sent our marriage certificate. I received today in the email a SA (Sponsor approval)! Does it mean by changing the marriage status, my case literally started from the beginning?

I originally thought my wife's case would be close to approval and we can move there together in March. Now I'm so lost and don't know what to do. Very much hope you can help shed some light. Should I contact the VO and tell the story in the hope that they can look at my case sooner?

I am confused. your timeline suggests your file was already at a visa office and sponsor approval was completed months ago.

had you received sponsor approval before sending in your marriage certificate? Do you now have 2 SA letters?

what is the date listed as the application received date for the application (either on your initial AOR or Sponsor Approval letter)?

If you have 2 sponsor approval letters, what language is different? Do they categorize your file differently? Perhaps they are sending a new copy to reflect your new marital status. it doesn't necessarily suggest your file is starting from scratch.

the best way to see what is going on is to order your GCMS notes.

I think your submission of the marriage certificate prompted a review of your Sponsorship as you circumstances have changed. The review found you're are (still) eligible to Sponsor, and Approved (as expected).

I'd be surprised if this causes any significant delay in your application.
Check the online status of the PR application and the GCMS notes as previously suggested.

Yes, that's right. I received 2 SA letters, one dated June 3, 2016 and the other Jan 11, 2017. They look exactly the same, no language different only date is different, category has changed from FCC to FC1.

I've ordered notes right away but it'll take a month to get to me. Therefore, asking here to see if anyone has similar experience.

it sounds like to me what others said, that they are sending another letter because the category change and it doesn't mean your file has been put to the back of the line. it just means they are updating your file to reflect the new marital status.

This is indeed confusing. My situation was exactly like yours. Applied through common law and got married months later and send through the Marriage certificate. This did not cause any delays as the case was closed just 4 moths after the certificate was sent through. You VO seems to be processing cases within 7-10 months so maybe you may hear some good news soon.

Its possible the second email may just a mistake but can't be certain only the notes will give you a concrete answer.

Good luck.
I submitted my marriage certificate in early Oct, notes show VO sent to CIC Mississauga for "update of marriage status" mid Oct. Then early Nov, notes said "martial status updated, send to officer to be actioned", that was the note ran up to Nov 25. I received the SA dated Jan 11, 2017. No update on MY CIC since September 2016.

Do you have similar timeline? How long after your second SA did your VO approve your case?

My wife is having her bank account opened, is it ok for her to transfer money into Canada before DM or should wait? Will this raise a red flag?

When I move in March to resume my residency, can she buy a car and car insurance as a visitor? I've checked, licensing office doesn't care, just not sure if this will have negative effect on her PR application in process.

How would the CIC know her account number? Or the bank that she is dealing with for that matter?

She can buy a car. I am not sure about insurance, but I assume so. Neither report to CIC. So as I asked before, how would they know?

transferring money to a canadian bank account has no relevance to your application. there are many non-residents of canada that have bank accounts in canada.

she will not be able to get car insurance without a canadian license (at least in ontario), so if she can obtain a canadian license, she shouldn't have trouble getting insurance. more than likely, the insurance company will require a "driving history" from where she is currently licensed. car dealerships take cash, so i don't see why they would not allow someone to purchase a car. again, this has nothing to do with or have any effect on her pr application.

Thank you for all your input!

My plan now is to still go in March to resume my residency, then she enters as a visitor and wait until her PR approved, then flagpole.
