Dear All,

When I sponsored my mom in 2010 it was me my wife and my mom in the application, so a family size of three. Now we that have 2 children do I have the obligation to report this to CIC? and if yes how is it gonna effect my mom's case?

Thank you.

I am not sure if you are required to report to CIC. But now with two children, you must have minimum income required for 5 persons. If you do not meet that requirement it can be a problem. Have you received Sponsorship Approval yet? If not, then you can add a co-signer (in case your income is less then minimum income required for 5 persons).

When CIC requests that you submit updated proofs of meeting minimum income as of latest tax year, you will have to meet family sizes that include your kids effective the year they were born in.

i.e. if your first kid was born in 2012... then starting in 2012 tax year you'll need to show income meeting family size of 4. And if last kid was born 2014 then starting 2014 tax year you need to show family size of 5.

Hi Rob_TO,

I'm in similar case. My son was born on Nov 2012. My husband and I are the sponsors to both my parents with dependents and also his parents without dependent. Our total income back in 2010 when we applied for sponsorship is more than sufficient for everyone and even to date with my son. However, I did maternity leave for one year and therefore my income on that particular tax year will not meet the income requirement. Will this be a problem for my sponsorship?

Yes, it will be a problem for your sponsorship. You are required to meet the LICO from the time of app submission until approval. As you haven't done that, there is a good chance of refusal.

Really? Not good news, unbelievable... That's just ticking or not ticking a box! We have not been in a social welfare... That's EI on a maternity leave... Our LICO combined is more than required before my maternity leave, after, and currently. We're in stable jobs and we're never unemployed other than my mat leave :( ....
That sucks!

I already submitted the addl docs required and included a letter of change in circumstance i.e. the birth of our son. Why I didn't think of explaining and submitting current NOA... I guess I didn't think of it since the required LICO years 2010 & 2009 are still okay even with the birth of our son. What to do now?... I guess I'll just wait & see...

You are supposed to be meeting LICO for every year based on your family size, up until application is actually approved. CIC doesn't give allowance for any reasons not to meet LICO, so won't give you any leeway just because you were on maternity leave.

Which year did you miss LICO in? You can just continue on with the application, and hope that if/when CIC asks for income updates they only ask for most recent tax year, and not for all years since submitting the app. But really i'm not sure what they tend to ask for, best to check in one of the parents sponsorship threads.

I double checked my NOA on the tax year of my maternity leave 2013 and We're still way above LICO2013 (Even with addl 30%)! What a relief! Thanks for all the info anyways...
