if I become common law with my Canadian partner before receiving PR do I need to inform CIC? If I do what do I need to inform them? She is a Canadian citizen born and bred and lives and works in Canada.

I am sure you do need to inform CIC of the change and provide any acceptable evidence of your common law partnership.
