chances of getting in phd after masters

hello frnds,
i am a masters student,planning phd.
as i still have a year(masters completing by june 2013)
i was gathering all possible information through this forum.
In my recent post i came across a shocking information that universities of canada do not prefer students who have completed their masters from INDIA.
does this limits my chances?
wat if my research proposal is not enough strong?
what must i do???

Hi,

This is not true. I know many students who went to Canada after an MA from an Indian university. Of course, if you are from JNU or something it increases your chances, but there are others from regional universities too who have got admission. You have to have a great research proposal, and also good recos.
