Hello,

I am sponsoring my spouse and need to provide her Russian birth certificate

IRCC needs:
  • a certified copy of the original document; and
  • the English or French translation
The Russian embassy in Paris made a photocopy and put a stamp mentioning that its a certified copy with date and signature. I keep reading that a notary public must make the certified copy. The embassy copy is just as good no?

I will then ask a Canadian translation agency (so wont need affidavit) to translate to English. (Do they need the original? They say they don't need the original)

Thanks

Canadian translation agency won't need original. I once got few documents translated from a Canadian translation agency while sitting in USA. I sent my scanned documents via email and they sent me translated and certified documents via mail.

Thanks for the response, it's helpful.

Any idea about doing doing the certified copy at embassy vs notary public?

I'm in the same situation. Did you manage to find an answer? Thanks :)
