Hi guys,

I got a certified copy of my birth certificate from a notary public, however I've realised that the document name has not been written on the copy.
What are my options, do I need to get another done or can I add document name myself?

Any feedback greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I do not quiet understand your question.

Can you explain - "the document name has not been written on the copy" ?

Hi nishesh,

Below is the extract from CIC of what you need from Certified True copy of original, in my document its got everything apart from the part that's underlined:

A certified or notarized copy of a document is a photocopy that we certify as being a true copy of the original document.
To have a copy certified, the authorized person must compare the original document to the photocopy and must print the following on the photocopy:

"I certify that this is a true copy of the original document"
the name of the original document
the date of the certification
his or her name
his or her official position or title
his or her signature

Thanks

You do not need to certify all copies of all documents unless it is in a language other than ENG or FR.

Please paste the URL of the CIC segment where you found this info.

Hi Nishesh,

I didn't explain things clearly on my first post, basically my birth certificate is in Gujarati I've therefore got a certified copy of this done to send with my application, the certified copy has everything on it apart from the text I underlined in my previous post.
I'm therefore unsure on what to do as i was planning on submitting my application today.

The extract is from here:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/EG7TOC.asp

Hope this helps

Thanks

It makes sense now.

I will recommend you get another certified copy because the title which is Birth Certificate is likely to be important more so because CIC has specifically asked for it.

Thanks Nishesh,

This part will probably be the most expensive part of my application, shame I can't add the name myself.

Thaks for your advice

Are you getting this done in the UK ?

Did you originally instruct who so ever is doing it to include the doc title ?

Yeap getting it done in UK.

I forgot about the title myself, I'll go to their office and ask them to add the title that should solve the problem.
Better to delay the application by a day or two than getting it returned.

Hi MKesh & nishesh,

Thanks for the information on certified copies.

Maybe you can help me with a related question.

I had my birth certificate translated from Dutch to English by a certified translator. I asked for a translation, an affidavit and a certified copy.

I got an English translation with 3 stamps on it:
- stamp by translator: "Translatioin declared faithful from Dutch into English ne varietur" + date + name translator + title + signature
- stamp by notary public (judge magistrate) declaring that the signature of the translator is real + date + name magistrate + title + signature (BUT IT IS IN DUTCH)
- stamp of the court (ALSO IN DUTCH)

I also got the certified copy with everything on it (I certify..., name of original document, date, name magistrate, title, signature). This seems OK.

So, I'm worried about the affidavit. Are the stamps on the translation enough? Is it a problem that the stamps of the magistrate and the court are in Dutch? Is there an official format for an affidavit? Here in Belgium translators don't seem to know very well what it is.

Hope you can give me some advice.
