Certified copies means what exactly?

sorry if this is a repeat question, but maybe some of you with experience can help..

I am starting the process to sponsor my husband through the Family Class of Application, from Romania.
I have some doubts about whether all the documents we send need to be certified copies, and exactly what does this mean.

In the guide it says Photocopies only, but some documents (e.g. old birth certificates) are not in English, so they would need to be translated... The new certificates and the passports are trilingual (English, French, Romanian) in format, but obviously compiled in Romanian.. Would I need to translate those too?

As for the copies, can you please confirm I have understood this correctly?
A copy is made of the original document, then it is notarized (true copy of the original), and then translated (by an authorized translator)? So the final documents sent are a translation and a copy of the document, both notarized (legalized/certified)?

Hi Irina,

You do not need to translate the copy of your passport or ID you need to translate from Romanian the marriage certificate, birth certificate and what whatever else you need but is in Romanian and notary will need to authorize this documents...anyway this is what we did

Hey Irina,

You are welcome just take it to a translation office with a notary and they will know what to do...
To us they first made a copy of the document in original language (romanian) and next to it they attached the translation and then the notary made a note bellow that.. With her name, stamp and she wrote something like... I authorize this document....
I am sure that most of the translation offices in your town are also working with a notary and they should know what they have to do!
