I did IELTS a year or so ago, without much preparation and my score was as follows:
Speaking: 9, Reading: 7.5, Listening: 7, Writing: 6.
Personally, i found Listening to be very tough as I was struggling with the loud speaker, and writing as I write really slow and have issues with spelling.
I booked another language test as I wanted to improve my CRS score, this time I went for CELPIP. I didn't prepare much for this either, just went through a sample test and went for the real test.
I found everything except speaking to be much easier in CELPIP. Everything was computerized and you would be given a head phone.
My thoughts on CELPIP after the test:
Reading is more efficient as you don't have to flip through the pages.
Listening is easier as you won't be distracted by other people and or miss something because it wasn't clear.
Writing is significantly easier than IELTS, it has a spell checker and most people type faster than they write.
The only thing i struggled with was speaking as there is no human interaction.
My initial CELPIP score came upto:
Listening: 10, Reading: 11, Writing: 11, Speaking: 8.
I knew i messed up in speaking, but i was reading online that a gap of 2 bands is not usual and it is likely that i will get my points increased if i ask for a reassessment, so I did. To my surprise, they didn't just increase my speaking score, they increased it by two bands. So there is some merit to reassessment.
Now my CRS score has jumped to 469 but the cutoff score was 534 last month![Frown :( :(](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
If anybody has questions regarding CELPIP vs IELTS, i can help to the best of my ability.
Thanks.
