There are some service providers that will probably not work with your existing phone, for example Wind. They use AWS frequencies which generic phones can't handle. Fido=Rogers effectively.. It's a market branding aimed at certain demographics. Data on pre-paid is a huge ripoff, be careful to read the small print.

All 'bring you own device' plans from the major providers ranges from $50 to $90 with unlimited talk & texting.

Virgin & Public mobile are two of the cheapest and good companies in Toronto.

If you don't need data, Koodo basic plans are $15 a month - includes unlimited texting including international. You can then add talk boosters depending on how many minutes you want. $25 buys 500 Canadawide minutes.

Chatr wireless (uses Rogers network i believe)

$25/month - unlimited provincial calling.

I purchased my Nexus 4 in England; and it works perfectly with Wind and Mobilicity, and probably every other network in Canada too.

I'd be interested to know exactly what you see for the carrier on Wind.. They run on AWS and normally UK mobiles have to use the Wind extended roaming service, as they don't have AWS frequency coverage.

I think wind is giving good option at 40$ a month unlimited canada & us calling with unlimited international text & internet. And cheap international calling which is worldsever in this plan. You need to topup your account for the same. Beware of coverage and related charges. Also if u have internet facility for international call u may use dial91 cheapest calling rates.

Guys doing a short landing for a week. I am in no mood to buy a $50 plan just for a week. Any idea what all options do I have. I will be carrying my own mobile.

You just keep your current provider. No need wasting 50 bucks on a plan if your only gonna use that for 7 days.
