Dear All,

I did my post-graduate for 1 year, I got a 1 year post graduate work permit along with 18 months working continuous with a company. Will I be qualified to apply under the CEC for myself and family? How long does it take for approval if I am qualified? How do I bridge the the remaining 6 months here in Canada to work? Since I only have a 1 year work permit...

To answer your question, the 18 months you say you worked, was that in NOC 0, A or B? Also, were you on a work permit for that job? Read the instruction guide at:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/English/information/applications/cec.asp

This should answer most of your questions. Official stated times for CEC is 13 months, but you might get it quicker. You can apply for a BOWP after you get your AOR to bridge the gap.

Note that you need one full year of full-time employment (or the equivalent) AFTER graduation. If you were working as a student, you won't be able to count that time.

I have a doubt regarding this.
What if somebody starts working full time after official graduation ceremony but on Off campus work permit?
Will that be counted?
i started working full time on my off campus work permit and received my PGWP after i started working.
What should i do now?
My employer letter will state actual start date(which is during my off campus permit) irrespective of when my PGWP will be effective from. Will this be a problem ? or will the VO make this out

Thanks

Technically you can apply with the experience gained from off campus, GIVEN THAT YOU WORKED AFTER YOUR GRADUATION CEREMONY. This is very important because I have heard of people applying with work experience from the date right after final exam and got rejected, because she simply did not meet the one year requirement. However, if you worked AFTER official graduation (when the dean handed that diploma to you), you just need to enclose a note to explain that situation.

However, the approach is still risk-taking, because it's up to the visa officer's personal discretion to approve your work experience. PGWP is your safest bet, as long as you didn't get your PGWP too late. Personally I would wait till the PGWP date.

And if you were worried about starting before PGWP - be rest assured. Visa officers won't bother deporting you as long as you had that off campus work permit. After all, you are eligible to work full time during the off school season.

Will that be counted? After graduation date, experience counts

What should i do now? Do you know what date your graduated? If started working after that then your OCWP experience counts. Graduation date is not the one on which graduation ceremony is. Sometimes they can be same. My graduation ceremony was after 6 months from my actual graduation date. It is either written on Graduation certificate or Graduation letter from college
My employer letter will state actual start date(which is during my off campus permit) irrespective of when my PGWP will be effective from. Will this be a problem ? or will the VO make this out

Hi Guys looks like we all are on same boat. However I checked it twice with CIC about experience count & they confirmed me that any experience after course will be counted.

If you started working on PGWP then you have nothing to worry about.

I finished my course on 20th Aug & started my job on 24th Aug on OCWP. Got my PGWP Nov 7th.
Checked with CIC about experience count & they confirmed any experience post studies will be counted in CEC.
Its logical if you have 1 year WP & CEC requirement is 1 year minimum experience what option do you have apart from leaving country because you will never get BGWP with AOR which takes 45-60 days.
Any comments?

You have to be clear about how long you have already worked vs. how long your expected employment is...

You cannot apply before you have met the program requirements.

You were given the link to all the program information, suggest you spend some time getting familiar with the requirements...

It should be counted, but it's best to provide a written explanation, just in case the VO misses it.

Nothing to worry about, it's authorized.

It's not a problem. And the VO would probably figure it out, but why make him or her work that hard? Better to provide a written explanation about why your experience before the PGWP should be included, and provide evidence (e.g. document with date of graduation (diploma, transcript)...

I am not sure of graduation date exactly? (need to see my certificates). My grad ceremony was on June 12 and I started workign full time from jUNE 17 on PGWP.

The date of your ceremony IS the date of graduation.

So you graduated on June 12, and got your PGWP on June 17 - you're talking about the difference of 1 week? If that's true, and you're worried about that one week, then you're cutting it pretty close... give yourself a couple of extra weeks before applying as a cushion against any possible errors or misunderstandings...
