Hi all,

Not sure if I'll get an answer to this one, though here goes.

I've applied for PR under the CEC class. I could have applied under sponsorship as, back in June, I had been with my fiancée over a year. However, with the timing of when my temp permit would expire and the time it takes for the first part of sponsorship to be completed it was better to apply under CEC to ensure I could get the bridging work permit. We married in September last year; I notified CIC etc.

So thats the history on my application.

I had my medical request a couple of weeks ago and this is where I get a little worried...

I have an ICD (like a pacemaker) which was implanted after an arrhythmia nearly 10 years ago. I've had no problems since then and haven't been in hospital - not even on any meds for heart or anything. However, it of course worries me with the whole 'drain on canadian resources' part of the medical.

If i had gone down the sponsorship route, that part of the medical rules wouldn't apply. So the question is this - because I am now married, my wife is Canadian, does that mean that rule in the medical will no longer apply - as if i had been sponsored? or will that not matter because i applied through CEC.

I'm pretty sure all will be fine with the medical - even if i am asked for more information, though it's still an anxious time..

Cheers.

Medical is mandatory for CEC . You will have to go through it.

I've had it - and actually, medical is required regardless of application type

Sorry, not sure if I was clear in my question.

It wasn't a case of 'do i still need my medical' it was a case of do they assess the results under the rules of sponsorship (because they are different to CEC) now that I am married.

Oh, CIC already knew about my ICD when they gave me my initial work permit - so i'm thinking the medical should go through ok anyway - just very nervous...

If you've applied under CEC, your medical results will be assessed under the rules of CEC, not sponsorship.
Do you know if people with who have an ICD for the same reason as you eventually had to seek medical help in the long run?

Nope, no idea.

When i applied for my first work permit from the UK CIC asked for more information regarding the whole ICD thing. I sent them a letter from my cardio surgeon back then and they gave the visa. Haven't been in hospital for years and receive no ongoing treatment, so figure all should be well...

You will need a report from a cardiologist and an Echocarduogram to say your heart functiin is ok. Probably u will have ur medicals reviewd and this may take weeks-months for sure. CEC application's medical is the Non Ece type, but for sponsorship it is the ECE type.. which would make a big difference in ur case..

Good luck

It is mandatory.

It is very common, I don't think you have anything to worry about. The physician would have requested extra tests if s/he were concerned.
