CEC in process as single and now expecting

hi there,

I posted this question in one of the thread but did not get much response.

I am a Jan 2013 applicant and I applied as single.
My bf of 5yrs (Canadian National) and I moved in March 2013, and now I am 14wk pregnant.
I believe in Canada, when you have a child with your partner, you are considered as in a common-law relationship.

We are not planning on getting married till I deliver our child or preferably till I get my PR (this is due to my family issues).
I believe I would have to inform CIC that I am now in a common relationship and we are expecting, correct?
We do not really have anything to prove our common law status other than the condo lease we have together.
Would that be enough to prove that we are in a common law relationship?

What kind of information do I have to submit to CIC?

Any help will be appreciated.

Having a child together makes no difference to your common-law status.
For immigration purposes common-law is defined as a minimum of 12 continuous months of cohabitation. The CIC website has the full definition but that's the gist of it.

First of all, congrats!!

From one of the CIC emails they have sent me:
"If you intend to get married or give birth prior to becoming a PR, you must inform CPP-O immediately: OttPilot-Immigration@cic.gc.ca
You will be asked to submit evidence such as a letter advising when and where birth is expected to take place."

Email them citing your application number and UCI and let them know you are expecting and live with partner. Act according to their response.

Has your family composition changed since our last correspondence?

· Have you married or divorced?
· Have you given birth or adopted a child?
· Do you intend to get married or divorced prior to becoming a permanent resident?
· Do you intend to give birth or adopt a child prior to becoming a permanent resident?

If any of these conditions apply, you must inform CPP-O immediately:
OttPilot-Immigration@cic.gc.ca

stop modifying your post and wait for this person to respond .

As far as i am aware, This is the instruction from my acknowledgment of receipt: Please inform the visa office of any changes in your application (e.g. birth or adoption of a child, marriage or common-law relationship, new occupation or employer, change of address, change of e-mail address, change of immigration representative, etc). Please include a letter identifying what the changes are and any relevant supporting documents. If your documents are not in English or French, send a notarized (certified) translation with a copy of the originals.

CIC never mention to inform them if the applicant intends to give birth or adopt. They only mention about if the applicant "gives birth but not if she intend to give birth".

Thanks for the info.
I am planning to give birth before becoming a PR as I will not be able to proceed with medical (X-ray portion of it).
I plan on waiting to go through the X-ray till I delivery my child.

So in this case, I will advise the CIC after the fact?
I will try calling CIC all centre again.

I got exactly the same wording is my email as Dilli, just rephrased a question into statement. The meaning hasn't changed. I hope that makes sense.

Keep calling, but since you are already expecting, notify CIC via email now.

If you submitted your docs to Ottawa office, that's the one.
Don't forget to quote your UCI and Application number. Good luck!

I emailed to CPP Ottawa and received the following response:

This email address is intended for case specific enquiries only. For general enquiries, please consult our Website<http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/index.asp>.

We have received your email sent to the Case Processing Pilot – Ottawa (“CPP-O”) and will respond to it shortly if:
· Your application is in process at CPP-O AND is outside the standard processing times
· You notify us of a change in your marital status, the birth of a child, the death of a family member, or the withdrawal of your application
· You notify us of a change in your contact information
· You send us information we have requested

According to this, I do not fall into any of these categories... lol
As suggested, I've included all the information of mine they'd need so I guess I'll wait and see if they'd direct me to the next step.

yea, I know, u don't have to inform them that ur pregnant or that ur getting married, sounds weird!!!! :-X u only need to inform them when u give birth or got married :-X
