One of my friends completed MSc. degree in Canada in 2004. Now he is doing PhD in Canada on Study permit. He has been working as a Research assistant and getting paid from the university for more than one year. Is he eligible to apply under CEC?

Thank you.

The post graduating work he has been doing will count towards his experience eligibility under CEC. However he must accumulate at least 1950 hours of paid work within 2 years preceding to application to qualify.

Hi,

I want to know if your friend was not paid during MSc program. I am a MSc student in Canada for the past two years, and my tution and stipend is being fully paid. I receive T4A forms every year. I am just sooo confused to as I can count these two years as work experince required to immigrate under CEC's temporary foriegn workers category.

An advice from anyone is appreciated.

Thanks for the help!

If you are being paid as a recipient of a grant, scholarship etc., they are not considered earned income. As well, you would have had to have graduated from a prior degree program in Canada.

As a student, after 1 year, you would qualify under the skilled workers program...
