For most inland applicants, IRCC issues a COPR and effective that date you become a PR. If you are out of Canada, you will have to apply for PRTD to reenter Canada, see https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/new-immigrants/pr-travel-document.htmlMy boyfriend is a CEC Inland candidate. AOR Date of June 16th 2020. He is currently on a work permit ,BOWP approved a month ago. I'm an American waiting on my PR approval. We've been separated since last March and he is planning on flying into the states next week.
My question is if he gets COPR while he is out of Canada, would that cause any issues? or what are the steps he would have to take to be able to re-enter Canada? Im assuming his work permit would be void when he gets PR. Any help would be appreciated!!
I don't want his application being effected but we don't qualify for any travel exemptions in Canada because he isn't a PR yet. @legalfalcon
THANK YOU!!!
If IRCC calls to confirm if your are in Canada and if you inform that your are not, then they will ask you to submit your passport to CPC-Ottawa for US residents, or alternatively you can ask for an extension until you return to Canada.
However, if you are returning to Canada by a non-commercial vehicle from the US, i.e. by your own car, you can use the COPR only to enter.
