Hello Everyone,

I applied for the Permanent Residence under the Canadian Experience Class online and have paid my biometrics fee of 85 dollars at the same time. I received my Acknowledgement of Receipt right away but havent receive the letter of instructions for the biometrics.

My visa expires soon and I would like to apply for an Bridge Open Work Permit. Because I have never provided my biometrics before, I was asked to pay for my it again on my BOWP.

Do we have to pay for the biometrics twice, one for the PR and one for the BOWP?

Or, can we do the biometrics just with the AOR and use it for the BOWP?

Sharing your experience, would be very much appreciated :)

if you enroll your biometrics for your PR before you cn use the same for the WP, conversely, if you have not enrolled them yet you will need to do them first for the WP and then for the PR.

PR biometrics can be used towards TRV applications but not the other way around.

i heard your fees for biometrics will be refunded back when u are applying BOWP and u will get letter to go for biometrics for BOWP after applying but can ignore that message which is automated one.

As a temporary measure, you’re exempt from giving biometrics if you’re both of the following:

  • in Canada
  • applying or have an application in progress
    • to extend your stay as a student, worker or visitor
    • to restore your status as a student, worker or visitor
    • for a work or study permit
    • for a visitor visa
    • for a temporary resident permit
This exemption applies even if

  • your application form for a work permit, study permit or visitor visa says it’s for applicants outside Canada
  • our online application system asks you to pay a biometric fee (CAN$85)
This exemption does not apply if you’re outside Canada.

Biometrics fee
You do not have to pay the biometric fee when you submit your application, even if the system tells you to pay it.

If you paid the fee,

  • we’ll automatically refund the fee once we finalize your application
  • the online application system will automatically send you a biometric instruction letter (BIL) telling you how to give your biometrics
    • You do not need to give biometrics, and you can ignore this letter.
