CEC Application: about the "up-to-date letters of reference"...

Hi everyone,

I am thinking of re-applying CEC this early summer, and I have a question regarding the reference letter:

Can I still use those old employer reference letters issued a year ago? Must I ask my former employers to obtain a new one?

Many Thanks!

If for some reason you can't get a new one., they're probably OK as long as they cover ALL your work experience (e.g. after you left the position).

Not true of your current employer. That definitely needs to be written "recently," and not before you qualify.

Thank you for the answer. My application got rejected last time because I did not accumulate enough working hours within a year. My current job can definitely make up the required work time. Since I am sure that they already have my reference letter on file, it just sounds redundant to ask my old boss to provide another up-to-date letter.

They may, but keep in mind a new application is treated as exactly that - a new application. But now it sounds like you're staying you don't have a copy and expect CIC to pull it from the file. (Remember you only need to submit a photocopy now). I think it would be a mistake not to re-submit it with the new application...

Oh no, I will submit the reference letter along with other supporting documents. I asked 2 original copies before I resigned. What I meant for the last message was that I will used the original reference letter that I obtained last year, instead of ask my former boss to write a new reference letter.
Thank you for the suggestion.
