CEC and spousal

Hello everyone,

I’m seeking some guidance, as I’m feeling a bit uncertain. Please take a look and share any thoughts or suggestions.

My girlfriend recently obtained PR status under the CEC. We’ve been living together for two years now. I’m also in the CEC pool, but my score of 480 isn’t meeting the current cutoff. I’m planning to retake the CELPIP, and by February 2025, I’ll complete two years of Canadian work experience, which should bring my score up to 510. My work permit is valid until January 2026.

Now, I’m uncertain whether I should apply as a common-law partner at this point. If I do, would I need to withdraw my current Express Entry application?

Did she declare you as her common law partner in her PR application and did you complete a medical / provide PCCs as part of her application?

No she didn’t declared anything in her PR application about me. This is something we want to do now. Will this be an issue?

it's an issue, better to apply under CEC with your own score

She can never sponsor you. You have to qualify on your own.

It's too late to add you to her application now.
