Hi,
I am currently attending the MBA program at Brock University.
The whole program lasts 21 months (17months of school time and 4 months of optional Co-op). There are 4 terms with 3 months each.
So, if 12 months would be my pure study time, will this be qualified for CEC requirement???/

Thanks

To qualify the applicant must have:
• been enrolled full-time in a program of study or training with a duration of at least two
years (i.e., two academic years of at least eight months excluding scheduled breaks,
such as summer holidays);

That is, 16 months of study. Sorry, it looks like it does not qualify.

If you completed another degree prior to starting the MBA program, that would change the scenario -

Not sure - Read the manual (I posted the link above), and contact CIC.

Exception for the 2-year education requirement (From CIC website) http://www.cic.gc.ca/ENGLISH/information/applications/guides/5609E2.asp

"If the duration of your program of study in Canada is less than 16 months but one academic year (eight months of study or more), you are only eligible for CEC if your credential is for a graduate program (e.g. Masters) and you have also attained a previous qualifying post-secondary educational credential (length of study of 8 months or more) in Canada within the two years preceding the completion of your graduate program"

sky825cn, when was the one year Master Preparation Certificate? Was it specifically in preparation of the MBA. You would qualify if it satifies the exception above.

yeah, i am still in this preparation program! actually tomorrow is a critical day for me.
i can apply for the Education Master which is for 1 year and MBA which is for 17months.
My preference would be Education but the final decision has to really rely on the CEC requirement.
My only concern is that whether this Preparation Certificate, although it is the undergraduate category in my university, can be finally acknowledged by CIC as part of the 16 months.

BTW, the ESL is almost 50% in this certificate. this can be possibly conflicted with"any program of study where ESL/FSL made up more than half of the hours of instruction/training" as cited in CIC website

how do you think Essat????

thanks a lot for your previous reply

In terms of CEC requirements, both the Education Masters (12 months) and MBA (17 months) would qualify if you graduate from any of them no more than 2 years after obtaining the 1 year certificate.

The 1 year certificate should be OK as long as it leads to a post-secondary education credential - It doesn't matter that it is an undergraduate program provided its post-secondary.

I agree the time spent on ESL during the certificate may be an issue. You will need to show that the hours spent on the ESL was less than 50% (as you stated). This is actually included on one of the CEC application forms - IMM 0008 - Schedule 8. They need you to state the number of hours per week spent on ESl during any study period. Also, note that to be eligible, the time between the graduations of the preparation certificate and the Masters or MBA should not be more than 2 years.

Check with the program coordinator at Brock U. Since it is designed for international students, I'm sure that they're well aware of CIC requirements, and can tell you whether the program meets the requirement. If your preparation certificate "counts" then you can select either the program. (If it doesn't "count" then neither program will meet the CIC requirements).

I think the certificate program (if it is less than 50% ESL) is probably good, tho -
