In the Citizenship application form 9D

they are clearly mentioning 'Please do not contact CBSA to request your history of entries'.

What does it mean. Are they refering that we should not request or does that mean do not request CBSA to mail it to CIC?

I have actually requested my entries to go through and make sure it matches my travel history.

*Passes out from anxiety and nervousness*

I too requested it. And today received the following message:

"Thank you for submitting your request with the CBSA. This message confirms its receipt. Your new, permanent file number is: [number] which replaces your original file number [number].

This number replaces the temporary tracking number you received when you initially submitted your request online.

An extension of time of up to 30 days beyond the 30 day statutory time limit will be required in order to process this request. This extension is being applied in accordance with paragraph 15(a)(i) of the Act as meeting the original time limit would unreasonably interfere with the operations of the Agency.

It's sort of a "catch 22": CIC says not to request your entry records, yet wants you to accurately record your entries. Don't worry, many people have requested their own records and nothing bad has happened. Do not include the report with your application, but others have reported that it helped to take the report to the interview.

So CIC tells dont request from CBSA and send it to them. Rather CIC wants to obtain it directly from CBSA

Oh no, what happened? You bumped CIC's request and now it reset and got extended to receive the CBSA report? I think it's better not to get it or if you want to get it then get it ahead of time before submitting an application for your record.

CIC tells you not to request the report at all...not for your own use OR to send to them with your application. However, you have the right to request your own report to fill out your application accurately. Do not include the report with your application, because CIC will obtain it directly from CBSA. However, as I wrote before, others in the forum report that it did benefit them to have the report with them at the interview.

You did the right thing, the hell with them. You need to be able to make sure you didn't miss or forget any trips.

When CIC started handing out RQs like candy starting back in May of 2012, CBSA saw an enormous increase in requests for travel records because the new RQ asked applicants to obtain them.

No one from CIC had consulted with the CBSA prior to the implementation of the new RQ, and the CBSA was totally overwhelmed (and not happy). Over the summer of 2012 steps were taken to give CIC direct access to CBSA's database and the forms, both the RQ and the Citizenship Application form were amended to include a consent from the applicant for CIC to access their travel history.

I think the "do not request statements" line was meant mostly to ensure that the CBSA didn't again find itself in a position where they couldn't keep up with demand from citizenship (and OAS, actually) applicants. There has been, however, an unfortunate side effect whereby people are confronted at a CJ/CO hearing with inconsistencies between their declared trips and those in their travel reports, and denied citizenship on that basis. Many won't have got their travel reports because of the blurb on the form, and are put at a great disadvantage because of that.

The CBSA seems to have fallen behind again (there have been other reports of them requiring an extension), but that only concerns disclosure sought under the Privacy Act. CIC is still able to pull travel histories directly, and are not affected by that in any way.

I applied for PR Card renewal last week. A few days later requested a travel history from CBSA to make sure all my dates are correct (I am submitting a citizenship application, hopefully soon). Two days after my request I received that e-mail.

My citizenship application is currently in process and I am about to make a quest for CBSA so I can bring with me once my interview comes. I am a bit confused by your situation, will my request bump that of CIC's? Do you advise requesting anyways?

Thanks!

I'm not sure what you're confused about my case, care to elaborate? Also, just a reminder that the above comments of mine are from May, a few weeks before I sent in my citizenship application.

I actually never received my report. I got a call from CBSA a day before my test and an e-mail informing me that my mail had returned to them, but I was never able to talk to them and never received an answer to my e-mail either. To me it made absolutely no difference, so far everything was processed in a timely fashion, without any delays whatsoever.

I personally wouldn't bother requesting the report, if CIC needs to confirm anything they can request it directly from CBSA as long as you provide them consent to.

I guess I was rather confused by the other member's comment “Oh no, what happened? You bumped CIC's request and now it reset and got extended to receive the CBSA report? I think it's better not to get it or if you want to get it then get it ahead of time before submitting an application for your record.” Does our own request interfere with that of CIC's?

I am missing one stamp entry into Canada when I traveled by road from USA. Was hoping that report could help prevent potential suspicions during the interview. Though I did give consent but I heard some interviewers don't bring the report with them.

Maybe, I don't know. In my case it didn't matter at all, and as you can see from my signature things have been going pretty smooth and the only step missing is the oath.

I barely have any entry stamps into Canada, didn't have an issue in my interview. The officer asked me if I go to the US frequently because of my 10-year B1/B2 visa, I said no, he then asked about day-trips, I told him I had it listed in my residence calculator, he apologized and said he hadn't realized it; then asked about trips to the country I was born in, I informed him I very rarely go there and told him how many times in the last few years I've been there (twice in the last 4 years)...

I only have two stamps from when I came as a visitor a couple times, and a few entering as a PR, but most of my entries have never been stamped at all, as the CBSA officers don't need to stamp a PR's/Citizen's passport when entering the country. I didn't get harassed like some other people get, but my residence isn't doubtful, I applied for citizenship over 3 years after I first became eligible.

Thank you for sharing! Yes, I see your application has been processed very smoothly, I hope mine will be the same. I applied under the new rule in July, became in process mid Sept. I have many stamps in my passports, perhaps I shouldn't worry too much about that single missing stamp, as I was in school that time and was away for spring break. The only proof I can think of as now is school enrollment, hope that will be enough.
