Yes, it can take a while to get this from US CBP (if you even get it at all), but I wouldn't call it a "good excuse" for delay. Apply for your records, show CIC you applied, if you get no response in a few months, motion CIC to move your application anyway. They can't hold it in abeyance indefinitely waiting for a document from a foreign government that may never come or may only come at some point in the distant future. US CBP's backlog is not your fault. You still deserve a timely decision on your application.
I have already applied for the CBP online. I am just very frustrated because I'm doing my business and needs to travel to the US and Asia from time to time. This episode has caused me a lot of concern, not wanting to further complicate the process by leaving Canada for short travel. How can I "motion" them to move my file? They don't even have a phone no. at local office that I can call. Most likely I will get a letter saying I need to send additional travel informatio/RQ. My major concern is that I cannot even leave Canada, and have to pause my life and business because of this. It is very frustrating and I don't know what the next steps will be.

Yes, it is very frustrating. Many of us are in the same boat. Give it awhile and if you haven't heard anything, try sending a fax to the local office asking them to take the next step. They might respond, or not. The only other thing you can do is hire n lawyer to petition for mandamus, asking the court to compel them to act on your file. That costs money however and is not guaranteed to work in every case.

hi, btdevil, I am in the same boat as you, and even worse. at least you are still doing your own business. I lost my job because I don't have Canadian citizenship and unable to obtain a TN visa to make business trips for my previous employer to the US. I received RQ last June and still waiting. my application already lasted longer than 28 months. if I don't get citizenship, I really had difficulty searching for a job in Canada as most of the fun and well paid jobs I apply will ask candidates to travel to the US. the whole process becomes such silly that a bunch of lazy idiots sleeping in Canada every day and taking social benefit can obtain citizenship without hassle. people like us working hard and paying taxes get bullied again and again simply because our job require us to travel. I am going to file mandamus once I waited until 36 months. enough is enough.

what a joke "the discover Canada" book wish future citizens to help each other in the community, but when we encounter difficulties, the government we pay tax to turn its back on us. they only say they want to help immigrants to settle here, but their bureaucracy proved otherwise.
