some cash and remaining in draft, it can be 20-80 % ratio. Safety is a relative term, something which is safe for you may not be safe for me. If you are going to stay in a motel it is never safe to keep large amount of cash.

oh common...

why do you wanna risk your life folks..

pickpockets, thieves, robbers, criminals know and recognize a stranger newbie immigrant instantly by closing their eyes..

YOU WANNA TAKE RISK CARRYING CASH....

take few cash with you far enough to pay for taxi and airport charges etc..
should not be more than 1000 CAD rest in bank draft.

20% Cash. Rest in Travelers Cheqs.
TC's are safe even if they get lost or stolen.
The thief will not be able to encash them without your passport and your signature.

I fully agree with jnathan. Keep some amount in cash for immediate expense on arrival and balance TC. Very safe.

Note that if you are carrying cash or cash equivalents (and traveler's cheques qualify as "cash equivalent") of value $10,000 Canadian or more, you must declare it upon entry into the country. It can be in any currency - CAD, USD, Euro, GBP, Yen, it does not matter. Failure to declare this can get you into quite a bit of trouble, however.

the choice is really yours........
others prefer to carry part cash/part TC or bank draft...all very good suggestions...
however, if u are happy carrying all your funds in cash and is quite safe about it, then by all means...it is about choice....

In my case/experience, I had less down CD$500 in cash and credit card while landing and the rest of my money in bank statements.Got my money transferred electronically from my country of resident to my Canadian bank account after a week of landing.

you mean to tell the security in canada???

Its perfectly alright. better keep quite without telling everybody you have cash in hand.

on arrival you need to inform that you have money thats all

If u could safeguard ur pps & COPR, so could u for ur cash.
BTW, 80:20 is the wisest way, as adviced by Explorer101.
