I think there is no need to worry about how much you can bring to Canada most important this is to Declare at border security! why would they not like to get money in to Canada from outside if your money is legal!

Make sure to declare it upon entry AND exit if you`re carrying anything close to $10000 CAD. Or simply stay below 9500, especially if the hard currency you`re carrying is not CAD and exchange rates may come into play.

I learned it the hard way. I had $13500 CAD on me in multiple currencies, and I didn`t know I had to declare it on exiting as well as entering Canada. I was held for well over half an hour by two CBSA agents in an isolated room with very unpleasant and seemingly irrelevant and downright invasive questions. I almost missed my flight and I was positively surprised when my cash wasn`t seized because I was sure they would after the way they treated me.

Just don`t take the risk, it isn`t worth it. Especially in the age of terrorism when officials are ready to suspect you for the smallest things.

POF:
I have the required money in TD Bank.. and presently I am not in Canada…
Would it be OK if i take printout of TD Bank statement at home and show it to immigration officer at the POE ? meaning i would not be able to get it sealed ans signed from TD bank officials from my country .. please suggest..

Alok,

Is bank statement alone enough for landing?

I am not too sure about print out of the online statement.
Generally a sealed and signed statement or certificate taken from bank branch works.

you can bring as much money as you want - by means of Travellers Cheques / Demand Drafts too,
or you can open canadian bank a/c while in your country, transfer money and show its statement as prrof of fund.

ICICI Bank, SBI all have branches in Canada. Visit their websites or major branch in your city and they will open your Canadian account from here itself.

ICICI, SBI etc have only a few branches in Canada. that too, mostly for overseas corporate and NRI banking.
For all practical reasons, opening accounts in these banks will be useless.

You would ideally want a bank which is local to Canada, and has thousands of ATMs and branches spread across many cities.
And for this, you best bet would be opening an account at either ScotiaBank or TD.

And good news, you can open an account in Scotia bank from India. They have tie up with Kotak Mahindra.
Just go to a Kotak Mahindra branch nearby and enquire.

Hello guys, ActuallyIm not aware yet..should we show any amount of cash money to the immigration officer , as part of requirement forLanding?
I know the credit/debit card thing...but im asking for official papers at airport....and if so, how many is the least amount?

So meaning, since the minimum required amount for a couple to immigrate is about 15,000 CAD, its ok if i carry less than 10,000 CAD in cash and just show the POF for the rest of the 15,000 as a bank statement from my home country ?
Is that correct ?

Yes, I did not carry any cash at all. A fund certificate from your bank is sufficient, given you have an International debit card that can be used for purchases and cash withdrawal in Canada.

It is very critical to make sure that your bank allows overseas withdrawal. This is not only important from POF point of view but otherwise as well.
You do not want to be stuck in a situation where you are not able to buy a burger at McDoanalds even with thousands of dollars lying in your account.

And if i dont have an international debit card or my bank doesnt support that, knowing that my family would transfer my money to Canada when i need it.So still the bank statement is sufficient or in that case i need to carry Cash?

How will your family transfer funds to Canada.
I know that at least in India, it is a very difficult task sending money abroad.
There is lot of scrutiny due to money laundering and banks ask a lot of questions and documents before allowing it.

The idea of POF is to prove that the funds are there and available for your use immediately.

Honestly, most of the times immigration officials will not even bother about POF. I do not think there have been many instances where immigration has forced someone to prove their funds. But there always is a risk involved. And in that case having an International debit card helps.
