Hey everyone!

I was just thinking about applying for our case notes since we haven't heard a peep from CIC in over 2 months and they requested our RTRF and extra info. I just have some questions,

1) How long before you get a response typically about the notes?
2) If we get our case notes and it says we are missing something what do we do?
3)What are the case notes really going to say?

Also,

Do we apply under the Privacy act or the Access to information act??

A little confused on how that works.

Applying online hopefully today.

I applied under Privacy Act.

I'm the sponsor, I've gotten my SA so do I apply to see the whole application under my name or to see how my husbands part, (The actual applicant) do I have to use his name and information? Even though our UCI and app number are technically the same?

Basically just wondering if I apply with my name and birth date and such if I will only get notes on my Sponsorship approval

You should be applying on his behalf. So you would say you're canadian and you're getting information on his behalf and enter his information and attach the consent form

What do you mean by 'our UCI and app number are technically the same'? Either they are same or not.

I found the process of applying for notes a bit confusing - which act to apply under, and what information to ask for. I think I applied under Privacy act but not sure. I did pay $5 though - which means they understood I was asking for applicant's information, not sponsor (I'm sponsoring as citizen, as it would have been free if I'm asking for my own info). What do you think?

If you are a Citizen or Permanent Resident or a resident in Canada and requesting notes from your own file, you can request it under Privacy Act. It is free.
If you are a Citizen or Permanent Resident or a resident in Canada and requesting notes for another person (who is not a Citizen or Permanent Resident or Resident in Canada), you have to request it under Access to Information Act. You must also enclose/attach consent form completed by the person for whom information is being requested. The fee for requests under the Access to information Act is $5.00

Apply online here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/atip/requests-atip.asp

You'll get everything CIC hold on you.

Did it!
Filled out the consent form so I could get the information on my hubby since he is the applicant.
They said 29 days and I'll hear back... I'd love to hear DM before that! but at least we will know SOMETHING in 29 days.
And it is free under privacy act, 5$ under the other.

I know what UCI means. I was asking AshleyAnne, what she meant by 'our UCI and app number are technically the same'?

sir. Every person has his own uci # but if you did not know anyone else uci number then you not fill his number just fill in the form n/a

I just meant they sent me the App # and UCI # when I got SA but it isn't like he had separate numbers, At the time I was just curious if it was my name and info with the app number, someone already told me it was his name and info and I was requesting it. So I had to fill out a consent form.
