And what is the repercussion of carrying funds more than CAD 10k, even it's informed to the officer.
If you don't declare and they find out, they could seize the money and you might need to pay fine.
If you declare, then you need to fill in some forms in front of the officer.
There are some countries that have very strict limitations on the amount of currency that can be electronically transferred, or are so corrupt that your money is not safe in the bank. My birth country of Argentina being one of them. My brother-in-law is actually flying into Toronto next month with quite a bit more than 10,000 CAD, and will of course declare it. There can be several honest reasons why people carry large amounts of cash.
