Carrying electronic gadgets into Canada as a student pre cautions

Hey guys,

I read in a few threads in this forum that we cannot carry pirated stuff in our personal devices that is laptop, mobiles and external HDD etc.

Is this really true? Will they check our electronic devices that we bring?

I have a lot of songs, movies and softwares i downloaded using torrents(actually pirated copies) will this be a problem when i land?

of course, pirated is not allow anywhere. I guess its better not to bring external hd. With laptop and mobile, maybe its possible as long as you can turn on it when u pass USA, if you're passing.

I think this is exaggerated, I have never heard this before. By law, piracy is against the law in most countries but I dont believe that Border service would go the extent of checking your computer and hard disk. This on its own is infringement on passenger privacy which I believe its against the law too. In as much you dont start up your computer and device and start public streaming of your content at the check in point, I dont think you will have a problem. However, to avoid taking risk, back up your stuff to cloud and empty your devices.

Fine i will have to empty the HDDs.
