Carleton is one of the expensive universities here in Canada. I'm currently doing my B.Eng degree and my masters commences only in 2019. I've heard that you'll have 5 courses each term for masters and M.Eng is 4terms long. So , You'll end up with 2 full time tuition which is about 40,000$ dollars. Regarding the 1300$, I earned that amount per month which summed up to 5000 for thr entire summer. Even though Ottawa is the capital of Canada , Most jobs only hire bilingual applicants and have wierd requirements. Moreover, You'll be burdened with work and won't find time. Ottawa is a wonderful city though. Lot of stuff to do and places to go to.

Let me know when you're landing and I could pick you up in case you're coming to Carleton.

I haven't yet decided on it yet. I'm still contemplating my options. Since it is so expensive, I'm sceptical about choosing it. Should I choose it? How are the future job prospects in Ottawa in this field, after doing M.Eng.? I also have applied to Windsor, which has lesser fee and also lesser living expenses. Shouldn't I choose that over this, as that has lesser fee?

First things first, Carleton university is well-known for various programs in mechanical and aerospace engineering also it is collaborated with Uottawa for the same. Secondly, there are some other branches where university is developed well and for that check alumna network. Now thinking about Master's program you have to complete total 10 courses through out masters(total 5 credits and 0.5 credit for each course). However, fees varied between 8and 12k CAD(per year) as number of course you select, may be thesis project or opt. For co-op.For higher level jobs you need to be bilingual. Overall ,you need to have atleast 18k CAD in your hand for 8months living as well as to cover all other study expanses.

I've checked the online fee estimate tool which shows 8000-9000$ a term, irrespective of no. of courses taken.
That means 25k a year and total almost 45k$ if we complete it in 5 terms. (I'll be taking coursework and assuming to take 2 courses a term because I think more than this would mean a lot of time for studies or pressure on mind). Apart from this, the living cost. Now total expenses would amount to at least 60k for two years. That's pretty expensive.

Cic does not let international students study part time. You'll have to take 3- 5 courses and pay 10,000 a term. It costs 10,000 if you take 3 or 5 classes. So, It's better taking 5 so that you don't waste your money. Its not gonna cost 10,000 a year for living expenses if you know your limits. I just spent 800$ last year on all expenses except rent. If you're looking for a cheap place, I can help you out too.

For graduate programs, 1 course per term is full time status. And maximum 3 courses are allowed (for graduates), as I have come to know through correspondence with the University staff. And yes, even if we save a lot on living expenses, the fee is total $45000 which is too much for me to afford. :(

That makes sense. My M.A.Sc program let's me take 5 courses with 2 complimentary Engineering electives. I'm not sure about M.Eng though. If you're not into spending a lot of money , You should look into colleges which offer diploma courses. Assessing by your proficiency in English , I feel Masters would be a better fit rsther than a diploma.Ive heard the fees at UBC is way lower than other universities in Canada. The only disadvantage is that it is all the way on the other side of Canada at B.C.On the other hand , Masters is going to be expensive here in Canada.

You're still doing your undergraduate part, right? That must be the reason for more number of courses and not the MASc. Most undergraduate programs have 3-5 courses per term. And what I thought was that if I'm going to invest this huge sum of money, I should do Master's instead of a diploma/certificate so that the outcome should be worthy enough. That's why chose university over college.
