I bought new car in USA in 2009 and paying installments for that. Installment plan ends in Dec 2012, my question is,

if I move to Canada in Jan-Feb 2012, would I be able to register my car in Ontario, Toronto (I am planing to find a job there).

OR

Would I need to pay in full before registering my car in Canada (Ontario, Toronto)? ::)

Any suggestions?

Do you have the car title?

if your cas is not paid off then there would be lien on ur title ... and u wont be able to import the car to canada ... you need to fax your car tile to immigration/customs before you land ... there was a nice thread on this in this forum .. try to look that up ...

long story short - you need to have it paid off before u take the car to canada ..

First you have to pay your loan, . before 72hrs of landing you must have to send title and required car import documentation to the US Customs at the border which will you going to enter in Canada, best website, it will help you step by step: http://www.auto-broker-magic.com/Canada_Import.html

So if one cannot pay off the car, they will have to sell it before landing?
Is there another option? Have it transferred to a relative in Canada? Getting a loan from a Canadian bank?
Also, just curious, are radar detectors legal in Canada?

You have to sell it or pay off all finance loan.

1. 4 choices. Pay off the car. Get a letter of authorization from the lender allowing you to export the car, get a loan in Canada and pay off the car. Or you could park in the US until it is paid for.

Bottomline : if you want to drive your car in canada than US loan will paid off, than rest of other way will there if you need some financial help on it. but investment of your finance will there for USA or park in the US as PMM said and pay installment of finance. is it ok, but when you park your car in USA who will take care? if some one drive and any incident is there like accident then who will responsible? one more important that if your car will stolen from the place than? that time you are not in the USA so it will make trouble for you. better sell it or payoff finance and drive to canada then re-finance (not sure that all bank re-finance it in Canada, you have to get help from finance people).
you will find same answer which we explain here in google even our some member in this forum follow sameway in past.
