I have two cars. One Car A was put up by me in goods to follow when I did my landing 2 yrs back. The other one car B, I bought 6 months back
I recently moved to Canada and feels that its better to get Car B imported instead of Car A
1. Do I need to pay some taxes for Car B.. assuming both are made in US?
2. If I import Car A, can I sell it in Canada within few months, once I feel I do not need it

This is what I understand about car importing:

1. You WILL pay duty on car B. Because it was not listed on your B4 AND because it is only 6 months old.

2. You can not sell nor dispose of this car for at least one year. If you do, you will be held liable for the import duty taxes, and yes, they will know you have sold it.

Great Thanks,,.
The Car B is 7 months old now. Still I have to pay? I mean is there a cut off month?

It is STILL not on your B4 form so it doesn't matter. They will assess the value of the car and you will have to pay duty on it in order to import it.

I thought (and believe) under the NAFTA agreement you don't pay taxes or import duty if the vehicle was manufactured in North America.

If that were actually the case I think you would find many folks crossing into the US to buy a car at a 'cheaper' price. You will and do have to pay import/duty fees on vehicles purchased outside of canada. The only exception would be if you are a returning Canadian that has been outside of Canada for more than 1 year (I think it is) and it is claimed on your B4 sheet, however, it can not have a value exceeding 10,000. If it exceeds that amount you will pay taxes/duty above that amount. A newly landing immigrant is not limited to that top value as long as it is claimed on the B4 as 'goods to follow'. The OP has the issue of claiming a previous vehicle on his B4 and he now wishes to import either both or the newer one, which is not claimed on the B4 and therefore assessable for taxes/import duty.
