I exported/imported my 2010 Toyota Prius today at Blaine/Pac Highway Surrey POE. I immediately went to the RIV, paid my fees, and have already passed the recall clearance. RIV has sent the vehicle inspection form, and this lists the mods needed. I suspect I will only need two -- 1. Daytime Runners turned on, and 2. Odometer turned on to reflect KM (my dash is all digital, and my speedometer allows for metric or miles).

My question is, the form looks like these mods have to be done in order to pass inspection. If I get the inspection done at Canadian Tire, will I lose the already paid for status if they say those two items (and any others I am wrong about possibly needing) are not complete?

I'm also not sure of where to do the mods. I called Toyota in Bellingham, WA (where I used to live), and they don't have a clue what I mean by switching the odometer and turning on daytime runners.

Any help is appreciated. I now have 45 days and ticking to get it all done!

Thanks!

phew! On Steaky's advice, I just caled my regular Toyota dealership (Sunrise in Abby), and they can do the daytime runners! You do not need the odo to be metric to pass inspection. Awesome!

I got day time running lights for $80. Canadian Tire wanted several hundred to do the same work. Definitely shop around. I did my inspections at CT. If you pay but don't pass the inspection, they can do the work required and will not charge you to inspect again. Also, you can have the work done elsewhere, bring the paperwork proof back to CT and they will finish the inspection (I think there is a time limit for returning free of charge though so ask).

What is you car's recall status? Were you able to get the clearance letter?

RIV pushed it through without a recall letter, and it listed none on the paperwork. I took it to Sunrise Toyota, and they are going to charge 200-300 since they had a problem with the car staying in park after they installed the relay. It's going back on Saturday. This car has been the biggest pain! The website doesn't list CT as authorized inspection agents, so I got nervous about it since they require BC and federal inspections on a 2010. It's still so confusing to me, and I'm getting worried since I've exported, imported, and have only until mid-April to finish it all.

I've gotten through it all just fine! I never even NEEDED the recall letter. RIV cleared me without it, never even mentioned it. I've had my provincial and RIV inspection at Canadian Tire in Langley, they fixed one issue with a fender latch, and I am ready to register!

Thanks to all for help. If your car is fairly new, and common to Canada, I wouldn't even bother with the recall letter unless you are told by RIV you have to.

Another forum member mention no recall letter required. According to what I remember, they said RIV is now doing that research themselves at no additional charge to the importer. Good to have it finished, eh???

So glad! I'm ready (I hope) for the sticker shock tomorrow when I go to ICBC and get my autoplan. I have to get a business class plan due to my self employment. I'm probably going to cry when I see my <$100 a month GEICO payments go bye bye!

omg it was awful, as I could only prove a 2-year good record, and I needed business class insurance for my contract work. 4 times my US premiums! Holy ouch!

Toyota's nice and you can look up recalls on any vehicle on their web site directly so the RIV will do that if you don't send it to them.
