Yeah, I heard about this... Even though it is universally accepted in Canada, that your driving licence is the proof of your address, insurance agents will still sell you the insurance with a fake address to make a quick commission. God forbid you get in a accident, they will not honor your insurance as it was issued using a fraudulent address (even though, they were aware of this when selling it to you in the first place ).PMM said:Hi

I have however, never heard of anyone being charged with insurance fraud or denied subsequent insurance because of this.
All things considered, if you have an old used car and the deductible is almost as much or more than the cost of repairs, then getting an insurance is really a formality. I guess you could give a friend's address (maybe even let your driving licence reflect this for a few months), continue to build a no claim history in Canada and when the time comes to buy your shiny new car, you will get the insurance rates of a good Canadian driver I am just sharing a possibility here and in no way endorse this practice 8)
