CBU grad / Sydney resident here. Just want to say best of luck to everyone applying! I want to put a reminder out - Make sure you have your accommodations secured before you come here! It might seem silly, but we experienced a bit of a housing crisis for incoming international students, we got way more than usual this year. I'm not sure if they all assumed they'd be staying on campus, or if there was some other miscommunication, but many arrived here without a place to stay so the community kind of scrambled to help everyone get settled.
Anyway, if anyone has questions about Sydney/CBU I'd be happy to help! I was born here so I know the place well. :)

Hello. I have a question about housing. Do u suggest that we should get an apartment on rent before we land? If yes, then can you suggest some good website and a decent neighbourhood . Thank you so much

Hello, i was accepted into an industrial engineering program and i applied for study permit on the 3rd of September 2018. I'm still waiting for a response. How many of you are in the same case scenario?

Hi! It's definitely a good idea to have an apartment before you get here. I think it'll be one less thing to worry about, on top of courses and culture shock.
Here's a website where you can find apartment or just room rentals :
https://www.kijiji.ca/b-apartments-condos/cape-breton/c37l1700011

It's important to note that here, prices are firm - we don't negotiate prices when it comes to apartments or things you buy in store.. So make sure you keep your price range in mind when you look at the ads. Also for room rentals, most landlords want only one or two people per room depending on the size.

Sydney, Glace Bay and New Waterford are the closest communities to CBU. I've only lived in Sydney so I can only recommend neighborhoods within Sydney: Ashby and Whitney Pier are between Downtown Sydney and CBU, the Southend is good too.
