Hi,

I applied for PR sponsored by my spouse from within Canada. I know my case was approved and just got my letter stating that I have to come on July 22nd but I will be out of the country. My sister is expecting a baby and asked me to be there and we also want to go baptise our baby with my family in Belgium. I could cancel the trip if I have no other choice but it would break my heart not to be there for my sister and I really want my family to finally meet the baby.

Does anyone have any experience with this? It says to write if I can't make it but I want to know how big of a deal that would be. I did my medical in January so that won't expire any time soon.

I have left the country a number of times since getting my work permit (valid till January 2015) and never had a problem. They were all weekend trips and one longer trip for a wedding.

Thank you!

I don't think CIC will reschedule the interview since the inland process assumes you are in Canada. I would reschedule your trip.

It sounds like you applied inland, correct? Inland implies you are in Canada and you will stay in Canada for the process. You've probably been waiting more than a year for this to finally be approved, GO TO THE INTERVIEW AND GET IT DONE! I would not reschedule, I would not delay anything.

I would not advise to go on your trip. If you don't show up for landing interview, CIC may view your absence as confirmation that you don't want to proceed with the PR process and they can void the whole application. Do you really want to jeopardize the whole application over a trip?

I don't get this...why would you want to jeopardize something that you have paid for and have been waiting for. You're lucky you've been able to spend time with your spouse...mine isn't from a visa excempt county and heven forbid he says he wants to delay coming here after we've waited all this time.

Cancel the trip and go to the interview!!!

Also - i thought with inland apps you weren't allowed to leave the country anyways

I agree she shouldn't leave, she should just go to the interview and leave the very next day.
But, with Inland apps it's not that you aren't allowed to leave, it's just not recommended because if you get denied re-entry, your application is cancelled.

That is a misnomer. CIC does say that the applicant must remain in Canada during the entire inland process. However it doesn't say anywhere that you are prevented from leaving. No one is prevented from leaving Canada at any time. It is just that if you do leave, you take your chances in being able to re-enter. CIC doesn't want to be liable in telling inland applicants that they can leave Canada when there is a small chance of applicant being denied re-entry thus affecting the inland application. CIC has no control over how CBSA conduct themselves in monitoring who gets in Canada.

Cancel the trip. CIC will not reschedule an interview for a baptism. Why would you jeopardize your PR?

You have no choice but to attend the interview otherwise chances are they will close your file . Also I don't think they will reschedule it.

The only cases I have seen posted that had their appointment rescheduled was :

1: the applicant showed up without the sponsor in attendance.

2: the applicant and sponsored showed up but there was a mistake in the COPR and needed correction, ie name misspelled or wrong dates.

Answer seems simple here. Call/email CIC office and simply ask them if it's possible to reschedule the interview to a later date.
If they say yes and do it, then you can take the risk to travel.
If they say no, then you and your partner must go to the interview

Will there be any implication for calling them at this stage? I am just curious here.
