Any updates on Venezuelan approval rates for refugee? 2 years ago Canada has a democratic perception for the Venezuelan government. At the time I research the chances of applying for political asylum but the refusal rates were high even though the government of VE was violating human rights at the time. Nowadays the situation has gotten worst. Protest against the government have increased and the number of people (students) murdered by military and paramilitarism is rising. Venezuela has become the new Cuba and thousand of Venezuelans are seeking for protection . what are the chances of not going back and seek protection in Canada?

Thank you for reading I'll appreciate any comment or recommendation

Venezuela is not considered on the list for refugees in Canada. However, you could arrive by land from US and request asylum at the border... or you can still try from where you are... http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/refugees/index.asp

What about trying through an economic stream (eg. express entry)? The scores are pretty low nowadays and if successful it can take 6 months.

Actually, unless he met the family requirement, if he arrived through the US and claimed at the boarder, he would be sent back to the US (safe third country agreement). none of which matters as the OP seems to be a student in Canada anyway.

Not applying in the past 2 years, along with not meeting the requirements of your student visa and working illegally (extra hours) may have a detrimental affect on an application. All you can do is try and wait for the results.
