No - CIC does not publish processing times for this stage.

All you can do is look for posts on this forum by other people who have been through the same thing to see what their experience was.

There are no extensions for medicals.
If your medical has expired, CIC will inform you to go have a new medical done.

That's incorrect. In some circumstances, CIC will extend the medical by a few months to allow the person to land without redoing the medical.

Hi Nitzan900, we were concerned about the same thing. If you look at our timeline you can see that my husband's medical expired in Jan 2013, when the COPR arrived, the date he has to land by is Jan 2014. I believe they extend it for a year from the expiry date.

What to expect? Expect a phone call or email asking you where have you been in the last 6 months. If it's email, after you respond to it, you will get no immediate news. Take about a month to find out if you got the extension or didn't get it. Very likely you will not get it, or, you will need to go get chest XRays done in order to get it. To be honest, chest xrays is worse because you will end up waiting the same amount of time as if you just redid your medicals all together.

i don't know what happened in your case but my VO explained to me very nicely that they approve almost all of the medicals if you have no medical issues and it havent been more than 15 months since you did them.
and to be honest? the last 6 months or the last 16 months i dident leave my home country and i am young and have no medical issues since i was a baby im healthy (like lex luthor? haha)

so if one thing im sure of is that they would approve that if they follow the rules. and if there is something Canadians know how to do is go by the book!

so again for anyone that DID got his extension all i ask is the processing time please share! thanks!

It doesn't matter if we got it or not. The processing time is for a decision on whether extension is granted or not, takes the same amount of time for a yes or a no. And it seems to be about a month.

Also, canadians doing things by the book? Good luck with that.

I sent them an email asking about the medical expiry on the 1 year anniversary of them receiving our application. They sent a reply 4 days later telling me the medical had been extended to 2014. Nine days later we rec'd our passport request. Three weeks after that, the COPR arrived in the mail.

Awww, that's cute. I especially like the part about how they told you they approve most medicals with no issues, etc. The reality is they don't. Check around in the threads of non visa-exempt countries...

There was a discussion in another thread about extensions and the conclusion seemed to be that IF you are from a visa-exempt country, it will be extended. If you aren't, go get retested. It came up that they will contact the issuing panel physician and as their opinion as to if it can be extended (otherwise every VO would have to have at least one doctor on staff just to approve extensions, you think they would pay for THAT?). So it depends on whether that doctor is willing to "waste" time looking at a file for free. Most visa exempt countries have health insurance systems in place, and visa exams are not a major part of the doctor's business. So the doctor may not see it as a big deal and render a judgement. In countries without such systems, and where visa exams are a large part of the doctor's business you want to bill for everything. So the doctor would most likely refuse to look at it (unless someone is going to pay for it, and no one is). That's how I see it at least.

So for all of you from Australia, UK, Israel, and such; enjoy your extensions.
