Hello all,

Excuse me having my first post as a question, but I just found this forum while searching for answers about a few points. Hopefully will be sticing around to help other people out in the future :)

I'm currently waiting for my transcripts to arrive to get going with the ECA. I'm planning to apply for Express Entry under the Federal Skilled Worker Program. I currently live outside Canada.

1. How many months of bank statements do CIC require to prove you have funds? How recent the last statement need to be? I'm guessing this is only needed when you are invited to apply, not for the initial expression of interest thingy.

2. On the medical exams the CIC website says you can either do the medical exams before or after you submit your application, depending on what you're applying for, without any other info. What is it in my case?

3. After you submit the application, are you required at any point to do an interview in the Canadian embassy?

4. After ITA, is it all attaching digital copies of all documents requested, or do you need to submit originals at any point?

5. Employer reference letters: Are there any rules on what these need to say, or just the generic "worked here from this to that". Do they need to be addressed to CIC? I'm asking cuz I've worked abroad and would probably make sense working on these from now.

Thanks a lot for your help guys!

6, generally. And yes, proof required after ITA.

When (if!) you get an ITA, then you'll need to get a medical. Don't do it before (the medical exam is only valid for 12 months, and must be less than 6 months old when sent to CIC). When (if!) you get your ITA, don't apply without sending medical.

3. After you submit the application, are you required at any point to do an interview in the Canadian embassy?
No. I haven't heard of anyone being called for interview during an EE application; previously, very very occasionally, in very very rare circumstances, it happened to FSW applicants. Forget about that ;)

Thanks a lot for your help guys!

Thanks man, very helpful!

Do you happen to know how recent these 6 month statements need to be? For example the latest being within the last 3 months of application date would be acceptable?

6 months counting back from the date you submit your application after getting an ITA.

+1. This. I.e. provide a 6 month bank statement dated as close as you can to the date you submit your post-ITA application.

Question 4: all digital (except for some PCCs from some countries - see CIC page about PCCs).

Question 5: I *think* they need to include your job duties, hours worked (& maybe salary) too, but hopefully Asivad will be along to confirm soon.

You're right - the reference letters need to include job duties, hours worked, dates of employment, positions held and salary.
As mentioned on the CIC website:

The following documents are mandatory for each work experience declared:

a reference or experience letter from the employer, which

  • should be an official document printed on company letterhead (must include the applicant's name, the company's contact information [address, telephone number and email address], and the name, title and signature of the immediate supervisor or personnel officer at the company),
  • should indicate all positions held while employed at the company and must include the following details: job title, duties and responsibilities, job status (if current job), dates worked for the company, number of work hours per week and annual salary plus benefits;

Thanks Lammawitch and heeru_maan.

Is this realistic though..? I've worked in total 4 different jobs. Perhaps I can get my last 2 employers to do this detailed letter, but previous ones probably won't, they just issue standardised Letters of Employment..

Also, how vital it is for the duties and responsibilities to correspond to the NOC job you apply under? My last job was in consulting (business/ strategy), my 2 jobs before that were in Finance (I'm a charted accountant too), and my first one was in Sales (!). So far it seems to make most sense to apply under 1122 Professional occupations in business management consulting, but my duties other than in my last job (which is also the longest in terms of time, though not by much) will not be consulting oriented (finance/ accounting and sales). Any pointers here? Or is it something I shouldn't be too worried about?

I'm also assuming if I apply under 1122, I'd be fine to consider employment in finance jobs once I'm actually in Canada, wouldn't I?

You will have to get reference letters for each experience that you're claiming (and getting) points for on CRS and/or program eligibility. You can choose to leave out experience from your work history and lose any associated points. CRS maxes out at 3 years of experience across multiple NOCs while program eligibility maxes out at 6+ years of experience in the same NOC (both within the last 10 years).

Also, how vital it is for the duties and responsibilities to correspond to the NOC job you apply under? Job responsibilities matching with NOC main duties is THE MOST VITAL part of your application. You cannot match job titles - you will necessarily have to get reference letters which indicate that your job responsibilities were a close match to the duties described under your chosen NOC for that particular experience.

I'm also assuming if I apply under 1122, I'd be fine to consider employment in finance jobs once I'm actually in Canada, wouldn't I?

This is just for application purposes. Once you get your PR status, you can work wherever you want to in Canada.

Thanks Asivad Anac. I'm having a mini heart attack, so I'd rather clarify my understanding with you.

What I'm applying for: EE through the Comprehensive Ranking System, under the Federal Skilled Worker Program. Max points 50 for 3 years of experience.

What my experience is: From last to first, 1.5 years consulting, 1 year finance, 1 year accounting, 1 year sales (total 4.5).

Question: If I chose to go for 1122 Professional occupations in business management consulting (simply because this is my most recent job field), would I be able to claim full points (50 for 3 years) when I provide reference letters from my 3 most recent employers, with total work experience of 3.5 years, despite 2 years of my work experience would not be falling under the NOC I applied under (they are finance/ accounting, NOC is consulting)?

If I understood you correctly, this shouldn't be a problem because you said under CRS multiple NOCs should be Okay. (I hope that!)

Many thanks mate.

Yes.

Simultaneously, you will need to get at least 67/100 on the FSW grid to be eligible for the program and, in the context of this program, you cannot add experience gained across more than 1 NOC.

Check that here ---> http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/apply-factors.asp

Thanks man. I get 70 on the FSW grid. Does it work the higher the better too, or is it a matter of eligible/ not eligible, and the CRS score is "the higher the better" factor?

Only CRS works that way - "higher the better". 67/100 is a binary metric - you either qualify or you don't and it doesn't matter after that.
