Hi,

Both countries are good in its own way but it all depends on what you want. You can always get statistics in terms of unemployment, economy, dollar value, etc etc... but what i feel is more important is your ability and determination in terms of what you want out of life, why do you want to even move to Canada or Australia ? What are your goals ?
This is what I remind myself of everyday. People immigrate all the time, and I've set my priorities and goals in life! I want to go back to uni and start a new course, for a complete career change. I haven't chosen one yet, because my view is not clear as we speak! I believe that my view will be broadned as soon as I land and strat exploring!
Thank you for asking me such an important question!

I kind of agree in terms of someone making a statement that Australia is a bit behind in terms of technology compared to Canada, here most of the technology is imported from North America or Europe. And most of the groceries are imported from China. The biggest industries here are Mining / Farming and Cattle... its sad to say that its been like this for atleast 200 years... where as other countries have moved away from Farming as their main industry.
This is why goodies are expensive! shipping and travel cost a lot too! Canada is better in this regard!

In terms of teaching, well i would say that with more population in Canada (33 million) compared to Australia (22 million) you have better opportunities.
Thank you for pinting out this fact to me. This is how I'm planning to support myself there while pursuing a new degree hopefully. Coz, I won't be able to work only after 6 months of full time study!! Tough since I'm gonna be on my own!

Moving countries is difficult but if you already have a job offer, well very good. Use it to your advantage, I think chances of you getting a job offer offshore is if not impossible is difficult with Australia. Starting a job right away will help you to understand the country the culture and the people, once you spend some time you can always change jobs and towns/cities. Its difficult to get job offers without local experience in either country.
Yes, immigration is no fun thing to do! Leaving home again after 5 years from my return is not easy either!! But, I have to move for the sake of better life opportunities!
Thank you for your advice! I will certainly use the offer card to my best advantage :) Changing jobs, areas will occur when needed, though :)

I moved to Australia 7 years ago and I feel its a great country and I love it. But recently i visited Vancouver and totally fell for the scenic beauty of the country and the people. I would say that you feel better interacting with strangers at a mall or a cafe or at the train station or a pub in Canada than in Australia, people are more friendly or rather nice in Canada [this is my personal opinion - Australia is not bad but better in Canada]. The best thing i love about Canada is the typical 4 season in the year, in Australia you never get snow !!! its mostly cold/rainy/hot. if you need snow you need to go to the mountains.

If you like the beaches and the sun, well Australia is the best place in the world with lifestyle and comfort. If you like a mix of all seasons, well Canada is better.
Thank you again for helping me make up my mind :) People and weather are very important factors for any immigrant! A member on the discussion has pointed out to the people factor and some racism problems in Australia! And, I was not comfortable reading about it!! But, now I know that Candians and People in Vancouver are very welcoming :)
The 4 season together is what I want! I suppose that this is Vancouver's weather's then, right?!

I am now planning to move to Canada after 7 years here in Australia. I don't have a job offer and I am still willing to move to Canada because of the climate and the people over there... Canadians are the nicest people on the planet Smiley

No matter where you go, if you don't keep yourself busy or exploring, you will feel home sick.
Great, I share your point of view now! I'm all for Canada now :)
If you don't mind, what kind of job are you planning to do in Canada?

hi Goodgal,

I am glad my inputs helped you.

I have been working in engineering all my life and now I want to do something non-engineering. End of this year I will finish my MBA and then early 2013 i will move to Vancouver. I would like to work as a management consultant but since i know no one over there and its difficult to get a job offer without being there, I have to move there and then find a job, in the meanwhile i will just do some random jobs to keep myself busy but not so busy that it will not let me do what i want to. I have applied for Working holiday visa and will start my permanent residency application soon... I am so determined to get there :D. We just have one life and make the most of it...

And regarding racism in Australia, well i would fully not agree to that point, as far as i know the attacks on people have been at places which were deserted or not safe... in all major cities there are suburbs or places that you are not supposed to venture no matter you are black, brown, white or yellow... its like getting mugged in a subway in New York... it can happen to anyone...in any city in the world. You have to be careful and avoid those places...

Well Edmonton is a great city... but gets really cold :)... they say that there is nothing like bad weather... its all bad clothing !!!

Well Enjoy.

Hello 2good2btrue,

I wish you all the best :D Hope you'll find a good opening in Vancouver. It's one of the best North American cities :)

I was concerned after I had read certain messages. But now I am not :) And I have asked a friend recently who is there, and he said that Australians were not racist :) Harry_aussi also said the same regarding Australians. In fact, he's been urging me to move to Australia :)
So, thank you guys for sharing your experiences :)
