Cancer issue after visa issued

Dear all,
I have been diagnosed with breast cancer after I got my visa as PR under FSW. I am the principa; applicant. When they asked for medical report nothing appeared. I asked for check up immediately after I got my visa and I was diagnosed with grade three cancer. I have landed in Feb 2015 for one week them back to my country to start the treatment process. I have provided an address from inside Canada for PR card. I started chemotherapy in Jordan and this is my forth dose. We are planning to settele in Canada in ON. I did not get the health insurance card yet and we are going to apply for it in May. I have questions:
1. Will I be covered in the medical insurance? Is not it my right to be covered. I did not lie at any stage of the immigration process.
2. If I get my medical insurance, will I continue the treatment process immediately? I heard that it may take months to get a family doctor appointment. when I asked cancer hospital there they refused to deal with any case without referal.
3. what is your advice to my?
Thank you

We wish you a speedy recovery and the best of health. Ameen.

This is a unique situation, so please understand that what I state below is my opinion.

- I think you will be entitled to medical insurance, as you have already landed and are now an immigrant. In case of any problems, you can seek legal advice from a good (canadian) lawyer in Canada.

- The best way for getting immediate treatment is through the emergency route. You should go to any good hospital's emergency, and complain of your problem. Also tell them about any treatments you've had (Never lie to the doctors). They will get tests done and any treatment required/referrals to cancer hospital will be done immediately (I think you will need the insurance card before that, or you might have to pay for the expenses). In any case, people already based in ON would be in a better position to explain.

Wish you all the best!

You will NOT be covered by OHIP for the first 3 months after you return to Canada. This is the minimum qualifying period. You would need to arrange private health insurance for that period. It's extremely unlikely that you would find any insurance company that will cover pre-existing cancer treatment.

Agreed. You will be covered AFTER three months. But not for the first three months. You will have to pay for all costs during the first three months out of your own pocket.

Some provinces do not have the 90-day wait period.
Settle there and apply for health card right away.

I always believe PR's and Citizens should have health coverage from Day 1.
Why pay so much money to insurance companies who take the money, then deny coverage for so many reasons when you need it. The companies find any loophole to avoid paying out.

Wish you a speedy recovery

Check with other prov like Alberta , Manitoba ,Sckh and Qubec.
They provide medical from day one if Landed there but in your case u Already landed in ON.
So you will treated as person moving from Ontario.
Plz Just Call them and speak first before landing again.
All the best.

From what I understand from the above posts, and to summarize:

- You have already landed and this means your 3 months wait period for OHIP has already started in Feb 2015.
- You are already undergoing treatment in Jordan.
- Once you have OHIP cover, your treatment in Canada will be covered for any health problems, whether new, or pre-existing.

Hence, it seems that once you go back to Canada in May or later, you will get your OHIP insurance and can get treatment from any hospital.

In addition, going to the emergency of any hospital, you may be able to avoid any wait for doctor's appointment or treatment at a cancer hospital as you would get your referral from that emergency.

Wish you a speedy recovery.

Not quite correct. OHIP coverage starts after 3 months from when you take up continuous physical residency in the province, NOT from the date that you land. The clock will only start when the OP returns permanently to live in Ontario and the OHIP coverage will begin 3 months later. For that initial 3 months period, you have to pay for everything yourself or via private medical insurance.

No - that's not how it works at all. And no - the three month wait period did not start in Feb 2015. You need to physically live in Canada for three months before you can qualify for OHIP. The OP was only in Canada for a week after landing and still needs to go through the three month waiting period upon return to Canada.

Dear Inshallahkheir

Please share with us your experience, Finally what happened? Did you get the cover from OHIP on landing? Were you diagnosed after AOR and before PPR or after PPR and COPR

THis would really help me in my case
